Security Measures Implemented Ahead of Proposed March

In anticipation of the Cockroach Janta Party’s planned ‘Lehra Do Tiranga’ march, more than 6,000 personnel from the Delhi Police and 220 companies from the Central Armed Police Forces will be stationed in New Delhi. The march is scheduled for 5 pm on Friday at Central Park in Connaught Place, although police have stated that permission for the event has not been granted.

Security has been heightened across various key locations, including Connaught Place, Rajiv Chowk, and Jantar Mantar. Surveillance has also been intensified with the installation of additional CCTV cameras to monitor the area effectively. The police have implemented barricades at multiple points, such as Patel Chowk and ITO, to manage access without causing significant disruption to public movement.

A senior police officer indicated that 5,000 additional personnel have been reserved from other districts to bolster the security presence. The 220 companies from the Central Armed Police Forces will also extend coverage to adjacent districts and critical areas. Each of the three planned shifts will see the deployment of 30 companies, with the possibility of increasing this number should the crowd size escalate.

Monitoring and Surveillance Enhancements

More than ten CCTV cameras have been installed around Central Park and Rajiv Chowk to monitor any gatherings and retain footage for potential incidents. The officer noted that the previous lack of surveillance in Central Park necessitated this upgrade, especially given the expected large turnout.

The New Delhi Municipal Council has announced the closure of Central Park to the public on both Friday and Saturday for “administrative reasons.” However, Delhi Police have indicated that a select group may be permitted to participate in waving the national flag and singing the national anthem at an appropriate location.

This march comes amid ongoing tensions between the Cockroach Janta Party and the Delhi Police, particularly regarding protests against Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar. The event follows the judicial custody of CJP leaders Saurav Das and Ashutosh Ranka, who were detained for entering Jantar Mantar on October 13.

Public Response and Police Preparedness

Authorities are preparing for a potential influx of participants from various student organisations, activists, and supporters of the Aam Aadmi Party. Police are strategising the deployment of personnel to ensure that the security cordon does not disrupt daily commuters or commercial activities in the area.

Delhi Police spokesperson Neha Yadav confirmed that permission for the march had not been granted, citing existing orders under Section 163 of the BNSS, which prohibit mass gatherings in Connaught Place and its vicinity. The security plan also includes measures to enforce the closure of Central Park, with arrangements to prevent unauthorised access.

Market and trade associations in Connaught Place have expressed concerns regarding the impact of large gatherings on business operations, prompting them to seek police protection for their establishments. Police have advised the public to avoid unauthorised gatherings and have warned of potential consequences for those who violate orders or disrupt public order.

Yadav mentioned that the police are open to granting permission for a limited number of protesters to conduct a flag march at an alternative location, provided that suitable arrangements can be made. This approach aims to balance the right to protest with the need to maintain public order and safety.
