Prashant Kishor Acknowledges Nitish Kumar as One of Bihar’s Top Leaders

The CSR Journal Magazine

Prashant Kishor, founder of the Jan Suraaj Party, has acknowledged Nitish Kumar as one of the ten best political leaders in Bihar’s history. This statement was made during Kishor’s campaign for the upcoming Legislative Council elections. While he praised Kumar’s efforts to improve the state, Kishor also expressed concerns regarding Kumar’s prolonged tenure in power, which he linked to what he described as deteriorating mental health.

Kishor’s comments came in response to questions from the media about Kumar’s potential involvement in the alleged killings of political opponents. These inquiries followed remarks made by Mokama MLA Anant Kumar Singh, who later retracted his statements about “nine murders” connected to his family. Singh suggested that these incidents were linked to his association with Kumar during the tenure of the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD).

As a former national vice-president of the JD(U), Kishor noted that the matter of Singh’s allegations should be resolved between the JD(U) and RJD, the primary opposition party. He stated that both parties could initiate an investigation if deemed necessary, emphasising that the Jan Suraaj Party would not intervene in the situation.

Reflections on Kumar’s Leadership

Kishor articulated his respect for Nitish Kumar, describing him as one of Bihar’s most sensible politicians. He remarked that Kumar’s legacy would be that of a leader striving to bring about positive change in the state. However, Kishor reiterated his concerns about Kumar’s mental health and the implications of governance being conducted through proxies.

Despite his criticisms, Kishor maintained that Kumar’s contributions to Bihar’s political landscape cannot be overlooked. He emphasised the complexity of the political environment and the need for leaders to be in sound mental health to effectively govern. Kishor’s perspective reflects a nuanced understanding of the challenges faced by political leaders in Bihar.

Notably, Kishor previously managed Kumar’s Assembly election campaign in 2015 while leading the consultancy firm IPAC. This background adds a layer of depth to his remarks, as he has had a close working relationship with Kumar in the past.

Response to Recent Tragedy

Kishor also addressed a tragic incident that occurred in a village in Vaishali district, where thirteen children lost their lives in a boat accident. This incident, which took place approximately seventy kilometres from Hajipur, has drawn significant attention and criticism regarding the government’s response.

He described the incident as a major tragedy, suggesting that in a developed nation, such a calamity would have led to substantial political consequences. Kishor expressed disappointment that Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary had not visited the affected village, particularly as it falls within the constituency of Tejashwi Yadav, the opposition leader.

Kishor highlighted the need for support and compassion for the grieving families affected by the tragedy. He announced his intention to visit the village on October 20, coinciding with the festival of Dussehra, to provide comfort to those in mourning. His commitment to this cause underscores his focus on community engagement and support during difficult times.
