Delhi Police Implement Traffic Restrictions Around Connaught Place Due to CJP Protest

The CSR Journal Magazine

Traffic movement on twenty-one roads in and around Connaught Place, Delhi, is expected to be disrupted on Friday due to a gathering organised by the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) at Central Park. The Delhi Traffic Police has indicated that restrictions may be enforced on several major thoroughfares, including Sansad Marg, Janpath, and Barakhamba Road. Commuters are advised to plan their travel accordingly.

In an advisory issued ahead of the event, the police did not specifically mention the CJP but urged the public to use public transport whenever feasible. The advisory emphasised the importance of allowing extra time for travel and following the instructions of traffic personnel. It also mentioned that diversions could be implemented based on the evolving situation.

The police have encouraged individuals to stay updated by monitoring their social media channels for real-time traffic information. This proactive communication aims to minimise inconvenience for those travelling in the affected areas.

CJP’s Planned Gathering and Allegations

The Cockroach Janta Party has called for a demonstration at Central Park, where supporters are expected to assemble and display the national flag. This protest is directed against Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar, with allegations of irregularities in the special intensive revision of electoral rolls being a focal point of the gathering. CJP founder Abhijeet Dipke has voiced concerns over the treatment of citizens who display the national flag, citing recent arrests of party members.

During a press conference, Dipke questioned the Prime Minister’s attitude towards the national flag, suggesting that it raises serious concerns about leadership. He claimed that he has been followed by vehicles without number plates and that personnel from the Intelligence Bureau have been inquiring about him, indicating a heightened level of scrutiny. Dipke expressed fears that he might be detained prior to the demonstration.

These allegations have added a layer of tension to the planned protest, with the CJP aiming to highlight what they perceive as governmental overreach and suppression of dissent. The party has called for widespread participation, encouraging citizens to join in solidarity.

Central Park Closure and Traffic Advisory

In light of the upcoming protest, the New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC) has announced that Central Park will remain closed on Friday, October 16, and Saturday, October 17. This closure is intended to ensure public safety and manage the anticipated crowd effectively. The NDMC’s decision reflects a cautious approach to large gatherings in urban areas.

The traffic advisory issued by the Delhi Traffic Police includes several recommendations for commuters. They have advised individuals to plan their journeys in advance, allocate additional travel time, and utilise public transport options. Furthermore, the police have instructed motorists not to park on the roadside and to use designated parking areas only.

Overall, the combination of the planned protest and the subsequent traffic restrictions highlights the ongoing tensions surrounding electoral processes and public demonstrations in Delhi. Authorities are taking measures to ensure that the situation is managed effectively, prioritising both public safety and the right to protest.
