Abhijeet Dipke Shares Experience of 24 Hours in Jail After Arrest During Delhi Protest

The CSR Journal Magazine

Abhijeet Dipke, the founder of the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP), recently shared his experience of spending 24 hours in jail without access to Wi-Fi or a phone. His comments came after he was granted conditional bail on 17 October 2026. Dipke took to social media platform X to express his feelings about the situation, posting a meme featuring Bollywood actor Shah Rukh Khan from the film Veer Zara. He captioned the post, “How it feels walking out of jail after 24 hours with no Wi-Fi and phone.”

Dipke’s arrest occurred on the morning of 17 October when he was reportedly detained for violating a peace bond he had signed on 10 October. This bond was a condition set by the authorities following his previous preventive custody alongside other CJP leaders. Upon his release, he expressed his hope for the freedom of others who were also detained during the protests.

According to police sources, Dipke was required to sign a peace bond as part of his bail conditions. He was arrested shortly after leaving his residence in Jhandewalan, Delhi, to participate in the CJP’s “Lehra Do Tiranga” protest scheduled for Connaught Place. The police had issued two notices to him before the planned demonstration, one of which prohibited him from holding any rallies in the area.

Protests and Police Action

On 16 October, prior to Dipke’s arrest, police detained over 150 protesters in connection with the CJP’s planned demonstration. Multiple First Information Reports (FIRs) were registered against the participants for allegedly violating prohibitory orders. The authorities had heightened security measures in and around Connaught Place to prevent any potential disturbances during the protest.

Dipke, along with fellow CJP leaders Saurav Das and Ashutosh Ranka, had previously been taken into preventive custody on 10 October. They were later produced before a special executive magistrate’s court, where they were released after furnishing surety bonds of Rs 50,000 each. They were also required to commit to maintaining peace and good behaviour for a duration of one year.

The police had issued a second notice to Dipke and his associates, reiterating the conditions of their peace bond. This notice indicated that the leaders had been taken into preventive custody to ensure compliance with the law and to maintain order during the protest. Following his release, a senior police officer stated that Dipke’s bail was granted based on the assurances provided in the peace bond.

Future Developments and Community Response

As of now, police have not released an official statement regarding the developments surrounding Dipke’s case or the protests. However, security measures remain heightened in the area as authorities continue to monitor the situation closely. Dipke’s social media posts have drawn attention, with many followers expressing support for his situation and the ongoing protests.

Dipke’s remarks about his time in jail highlight the challenges faced by activists in India, especially in the context of protests that have drawn significant police attention. His call for the release of his fellow activists indicates a continued commitment to the cause championed by the CJP. The situation remains dynamic as authorities and community members navigate the implications of these events.

As the CJP and its supporters prepare for future actions, the outcome of this incident may influence public sentiment and the approach taken by law enforcement in similar circumstances. The developments surrounding this case are being closely observed by various stakeholders in the community.
