Chilling New Allegations Emerge Against Kolkata ‘Rapist’ Manojit Mishra: Accused of Torture and Assault, Dark Past Comes to Light

In a disturbing development in the ongoing South Calcutta Law College gang rape case, fresh and chilling allegations have surfaced against accused Manojit Mishra. Another student has come forward, claiming Mishra routinely subjected students to mental harassment and even physical assault, painting a grim picture of a reign of terror on campus that stretches back years.

These new accusations come as authorities continue to investigate the alleged gangrape of a 24-year-old law student within the college premises on June 25, 2025. Mishra, along with two other students, Zaib Ahmed and Pramit Mukherjee, and a college security guard, are currently in police custody.

Pattern of Intimidation and Violence Alleged by Students

Speaking exclusively to The CSR Journal, a student detailed a pattern of intimidation and violence orchestrated by Mishra. “Whoever speaks against ex-students gets tortured. Some are mentally tortured, and those who still don’t get scared are physically assaulted,” the student alleged.

The accusations escalate to a terrifying incident involving the alleged kidnapping and brutal assault of a friend. “One of my friends was repeatedly targeted by him… We were stepping out of class, his goons tried to kidnap my friend and hit us,” the student recounted. The friend was later found “lying in a pool of blood,” indicating a severe physical assault. The attackers reportedly issued death threats, further solidifying the climate of fear described by the student.

Years of Troubling Behavior and Unheeded Warnings

These latest allegations are not isolated incidents, as a darker history of Manojit Mishra’s conduct within the college has now begun to unravel. Investigations have revealed that Mishra, often referred to as “Mango” on campus, had a long-standing reputation for disruptive and aggressive behavior.

In a significant revelation, CSR accessed a letter sent to the Kolkata Police Headquarters in December 2018 by the then principal of South Calcutta Law College, Debasish Chakraborty. The letter specifically raised concerns about Mishra’s disruptive behavior during campus events and even requested police presence for the college’s annual social program due to fears of trouble from him.

Further reports indicate a history of criminal cases against Mishra, including charges of molestation, assault, vandalism, and theft across various police stations in south Kolkata. Sources close to the college reveal that Mishra was rusticated in 2013 after allegedly stabbing a youth and later resurfaced in 2017 for readmission. Despite being reportedly ousted from the college’s Trinamool Chhatra Parishad (TMCP) unit in 2021 due to “rowdyism,” he returned to the college as a contractual staff member.

Students and insiders describe a “reign of terror” he allegedly wielded on campus, where he would reportedly film private moments of women, morph their pictures, and share them in WhatsApp groups. Complaints of molestation and harassment were allegedly lodged with college authorities and even the political party he was associated with, but seemingly went unaddressed. Some students claim they stopped attending classes due to his constant intimidating stares and unwelcome advances.

State Appoints Special Public Prosecutor; Accused Remanded

In a related development, the West Bengal government has appointed senior lawyer Bivas Chatterjee as the Special Public Prosecutor (SPP) to represent the state in the sensitive South Calcutta Law College gangrape case. Chatterjee is expected to oversee the proceedings, acknowledging the legal and social gravity of the matter.

The three primary accused, Manojit Mishra, Zaib Ahmed, and Pramit Mukherjee, were virtually produced before the court on Monday and have been remanded to police custody until July 8. The custody of the arrested security guard has been extended until July 4.

Defence counsel Raju Ganguly, representing Manojit Mishra and Promit Mukherjee, stated that his clients are cooperating with the investigation and denied the gangrape allegations, urging the court to allow the prosecution to complete its inquiry. Ganguly controversially claimed a “love bite” was found on Manojit Mishra’s neck, attempting to discredit the prosecution’s narrative.

Conversely, the Public Prosecutor argued that circumstantial and electronic evidence, including forensic reports confirming signs of forced penetration and bite marks on the victim, support the victim’s account, underlining the gravity of the offense. It was further alleged that the accused were desperate and even used an inhaler during the assault.

As the investigation deepens, these new and historical allegations against Manojit Mishra intensify the pressure on authorities to ensure a thorough and impartial probe, bringing to light the full extent of his alleged misconduct and ensuring justice for the victims.
