A drug cartel manufacturing two psychoactive drugs—Mephedrone and Ketamine—worth ₹50 crore was busted in a joint operation by Maharashtra Police, Rajasthan Police, and the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB).
The racket was uncovered when a family was located in Dholakia village, Barmer, Rajasthan, on July 22. This family was secretly operating in a buffalo barn, where several chemicals like ammonium chloride, propylene chloride, toluene, bromine, and chloroform were found, and a lab was being run to manufacture the drug Mephedrone. Two family members were detained and interrogated.
During the operation, 34 kilograms of Ketamine powder and 12 litres of liquid drugs were seized, as per official confirmation.
A senior official said, “This facility that was busted was being operated secretly inside a buffalo barn in an isolated place in a village. From the syndicate, two members were detained by the police. This operation was successfully carried out by Police and NCB Jodhpur.”
He further shared that among the two accused, one confirmed that other members were also operating from Raigad, Maharashtra, and that chemicals and lab equipment had been supplied there as well.
During interrogation, the accused revealed the involvement of other syndicate members, including one from Raigad district in Maharashtra, who had supplied the chemicals and lab equipment to set up the facility.
After receiving information about the second location, NCB Mumbai and Raigad Police raided the area and recovered 34 kg of Ketamine in powdered form, 12 litres of liquid Ketamine, and many other chemicals such as ammonium chloride, toluene, bromine, cyclohexanone, and chloroform.
The mastermind of the racket has been identified and is previously linked to other trafficking cases. Earlier, a similar drug syndicate was busted by NCB Jodhpur, where 5 kilograms of Mephedrone were recovered in Sri Ganganagar, Rajasthan.
