The CSR Journal Magazine

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has officially launched its ‘Sankalp Patra’ for the upcoming 2026 West Bengal Assembly elections, with a focus on transitioning the state from what is described as despair to development. This initiative was inaugurated by Union Home Minister Amit Shah, who emphasised that the manifesto aligns with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of a developed India, or Viksit Bharat.

During the launch, Shah addressed media representatives, criticising the Trinamool Congress (TMC) for its 15 years in power, alleging significant deterioration in law and order. He stated that the mandate given to Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee is now facing requests for change from the electorate.

Shah asserted that the manifesto is aimed at providing a pathway out from despair for all sections of society in Bengal, while also concentrating on farmers’ welfare. He reiterated that the BJP’s vision is directly connected with Modi’s broader national development goals.

Key Commitments in the Manifesto

The manifesto, themed ‘Sonar Bangla’ or ‘Golden Bengal’, outlines 15 major commitments that address governance, employment, and security in West Bengal. One of the prominent pledges includes a strict approach to national security through a ‘detect, delete and deport’ policy for illegal immigrants.

Additionally, the BJP plans to publish a white paper detailing alleged corruption and governance failures during TMC’s rule. To combat local corruption, the manifesto proposes an end to syndicate activities and the controversial culture of ‘cut money’ associated with government contracts.

For public sector workers and pensioners, the BJP has committed to timely payments of pending Dearness Allowance (DA) and promises to implement the 7th Pay Commission recommendations in a prompt manner. A significant focus on job creation is evident, with a promise to generate one crore employment opportunities in the next five years.

The party has also proposed a direct financial assistance scheme for unemployed youth, offering Rs 10,000 to help address joblessness. Furthermore, initiatives for women’s empowerment feature prominently in the manifesto, with plans for women-only police battalions and a monthly financial aid of Rs 3,000 for female beneficiaries.

Focus on Agricultural and Cultural Development

In the agricultural sector, the BJP assures enhanced support for staple crops such as rice, potato, and mango to improve income for farmers. Additionally, the manifesto includes plans for registering all fishermen under the ‘PM Matsya Sampada Yojana’, aiming to establish West Bengal as a hub for fisheries exports.

Cultural recognition is also a significant aspect of the document, with proposals to include Kurmali and Rajbanshi languages in the Eighth Schedule of the Constitution. This move is seen as an effort to acknowledge the state’s diverse linguistic heritage.

Furthermore, the BJP outlines plans for industrial revitalisation, specifically targeting the tea and jute industries. Promises to implement central healthcare initiatives such as Ayushman Bharat, alongside free screenings for breast cancer and HPV vaccinations, are included in education and healthcare commitments.

Finally, the manifesto proposes the establishment of a ‘Vande Mataram’ museum to celebrate India’s cultural heritage and the introduction of legal frameworks to ensure the freedom of religious practices. These pledges collectively reflect the BJP’s intent to reshape governance in West Bengal ahead of the 2026 elections.
