Bihar Minister Leshi Singh Addresses Party Workers’ Unease over Nitish Kumar’s Rajya Sabha Nomination

The CSR Journal Magazine

On March 6, Bihar Minister Leshi Singh addressed the emotional reactions of party workers after Chief Minister Nitish Kumar’s nomination for the upcoming Rajya Sabha elections. Kumar, who has led the state for over two decades, has sparked unease among party members regarding this significant decision.

Singh remarked, “It is natural that the workers are feeling uneasy with his decision,” acknowledging the lengthy tenure and contributions of Kumar in establishing governance and ensuring rule of law in the state of Bihar.

Upcoming Meeting to Discuss Party Sentiments

Leshi Singh mentioned that a meeting would be convened at 5 PM to discuss the sentiments among the party workers. The details and outcomes of the meeting are expected to be communicated afterward. “Whatever is decided in the meeting, it will be informed,” she stated, indicating a need for dialogue within the party about this crucial change.

Disappointment Expressed by Party Leaders

Prior to Singh’s comments, JD(U) MLA Binay Kumar Choudhary expressed disappointment over Kumar’s decision to contest in the Rajya Sabha elections. Choudhary noted that this announcement had led to feelings of sadness among party leaders. “We are sad. I cannot say anything about his decision,” he remarked, confirming that a meeting would occur later that day at Kumar’s residence to address the response from the party members.

Nitish Kumar’s Political Move

Nitish Kumar officially submitted his nomination for the Rajya Sabha in Patna on March 5, accompanied by Union Home Minister Amit Shah. In addition to Kumar, other NDA candidates such as Upendra Kushwaha and BJP Chief Nitin Nabin also filed their nominations for the Upper House. This shift marks a significant moment in Kumar’s political career, as he has been Bihar’s longest-serving Chief Minister.

Commitment to Future Collaboration

The 75-year-old Kumar has previously announced his intention to move to the Rajya Sabha during this election cycle. He emphasized the importance of his ongoing relationship with the party and his commitment to the development of Bihar in a post on social media. “I seek to become a member of the Rajya Sabha in the elections being held this time,” he stated, assuring party members of his continued support and guidance for the new cabinet.

Details on Upcoming Elections

The polling for the Rajya Sabha biennial elections is scheduled for March 16, with vote counting taking place at the same time. This election will fill 37 seats across ten states, with the terms of current members from states such as Maharashtra, Odisha, and Bihar set to end in April. Kumar’s nomination and the reactions from party workers highlight the dynamic political landscape in Bihar as the state approaches this crucial electoral period.
