Bihar becomes first state to adopt e-voting through android phones, BJP alleges fake website created ahead of Bihar Elections 2025

BJP has alleged that a fake website of the party has been created by unknown people allegedly to defame its leadership ahead of Bihar Elections 2025, which is scheduled in October-November this year. The Bihar BJP filed a police complaint with the Cyber Cell of the Patna Police on Wednesday.

“Some unknown persons have created a fake website using the Bihar BJP name and have been posting content defaming the party and its leaders,” the police complaint reads. “Strict action has been sought against those who are responsible. This is a serious offence,” Bihar BJP media in-charge, Danish Iqbal, told PTI.

Meanwhile, Bihar has become the first Indian state to adopt e-voting system for urban polls. The Bihar Election Commission has decided to roll out an e-voting system using an Android-based mobile. Bihar will be the country’s first state to adopt this voting method.

Bihar Election Commissioner Deepak Prasad has said the initiative will start with the upcoming municipal and urban body polls scheduled on June 28. The move is expected to help increase voter turnout and make elections more inclusive.

E-voting to be executed through two mobile apps

E-Voting refers to the process of casting votes through electronic devices, Android-based mobile phones in the case of Bihar Elections 2025. This method allows eligible voters to participate in elections remotely, without the need to visit a polling booth.

The entire e-voting process will be executed through two mobile apps, namely “e-Voting SECBHR”, one developed by the Centre for Development of Advanced Computing (C-DAC) and another by the Bihar State Election Commission.

E-voting to benefit migrant labourers, divyang, pregnant women and senior citizens

As per the State Election Commission, so far 10,000 electorates have registered for e-voting and 50 thousand electorates will be able to exercise their right to vote via e-voting and without visiting polling booths. Migrant labourers, migrant voters, divyang voters, pregnant female voters, elderly and senior citizens, and seriously ill electorates will be able to cast their votes using the e-voting process.

The e-voting system will have features like a blockchain platform, liveness detection, face match, live face scan, and face comparison, making the voting tamper-proof. Like EVMs feature of VVPAT, an audit trail has also been put in place in the e-voting process.
