Andhra Pradesh: Woman Dragged from Home, Tied to Pole & Beaten by Co-Worker’s Wife Over Alleged Affair

The CSR Journal Magazine

A very disturbing incident has sparked outrage across Andhra Pradesh. Here a young woman was tied to a pole and beaten by a mob in Mogallu village, West Godavari district. The attack was allegedly carried out by the wife and relatives of a married man the woman was rumored to be having an affair with. The incident has prompted swift police action and a wider debate on mob justice and public shaming.

Dragged From Home, Assaulted in Public View

The victim is an unmarried woman employed at a local prawn processing unit. She was reportedly in close contact with her colleague, Donga Subbarao. Donga is a married man from Guttulavaripalem who also worked at the same facility.

On Wednesday, Subbarao’s wife, suspecting an extramarital relationship, along with her relatives, allegedly stormed into the woman’s house. The group then forcibly dragged her into the village centre. They tied her to a pole, and proceeded to physically assault her in full public view.

Eyewitnesses reported that despite the woman’s desperate screams for help, villagers remained passive onlookers until local police were alerted.

Police Rescue Victim, Detain Accused

Palakoderu Sub-Inspector Ravi Varma, upon receiving information, rushed to the scene with his team. “We immediately rushed to the spot, freed the woman, and shifted her to Bhimavaram Government Hospital for treatment. We have detained several women involved in the assault. An investigation is underway,” SI Varma said.

Several women involved in the assault have been detained. A case has been registered, and police confirmed that a detailed investigation is currently underway. Authorities stated that further action will be based on the findings of the inquiry.

The incident has triggered widespread condemnation, with many calling it yet another example of dangerous vigilante behavior and the normalization of public humiliation in the name of “justice.” Activists and citizens alike are urging for stringent punishment and better legal protection for women.

Another Incident in Chittoor

In a similar incident before the West Godavari assault surfaced, a separate video from Chittoor district showing an older woman tied to a pole also went viral. However, police investigations later revealed that the Chittoor incident was staged as part of a family dispute over property.

Kuppam DSP B. Parthasarathi confirmed that the act was orchestrated by the woman’s own son to malign another family member. “The woman, Gangamma, was not harmed. The pipe used to tie her was loosely wrapped. The entire scene was part of a deliberate ploy,” the DSP explained. A case has been registered at Rallabuduguru Police Station.

Police Promise Stern Action

Unlike the Chittoor case, the Mogallu village assault was a real and violent attack. The police have assured that those involved will face legal consequences.

Sub-Inspector Ravi Varma shared that a case has been registered and a detailed investigation is underway. “We take this matter very seriously,” said SI Ravi Varma. “Such public displays of violence and humiliation cannot be tolerated. Our investigation will be thorough, and justice will be served.”

Meanwhile as the investigations continue, both cases are drawing attention to the urgent need for public awareness, responsible policing, and a collective stand against mob mentality.
