The CSR Journal Magazine

A 20-year-old woman from Assam has been found dead near a railway track in Srikakulam district, Andhra Pradesh, after she reportedly went missing while travelling by train. Himashree Boro, a student residing in Kamrup district and studying at B Borooah College in Guwahati, was on her way back to Assam following a dance competition in Visakhapatnam.

Himashree boarded the Dibrugarh-bound Vivek Express at Visakhapatnam railway station on the evening of October 5, intending to return to Guwahati. She was located in the S2 coach and had last communicated with her family on October 6. When her family lost contact with her, they sought assistance from the Government Railway Police in Guwahati and reached out to the railway helpline 139.

Railway personnel subsequently discovered Himashree’s belongings within the train. Notably, her two bags and identification documents were found in the S2 coach, although her whereabouts remained unknown at that time.

Investigation Underway

The recovery of Himashree’s body occurred in the Malayapuram-Penubarthi region of Ponduru mandal in Srikakulam district. The Superintendent of Police, Maheshwar Reddy, has visited the area to oversee the ongoing investigation. Authorities are currently scrutinising CCTV footage from Visakhapatnam railway station, which shows Himashree boarding the train shortly before her disappearance.

In the footage, an unidentified man was seen approaching her, allegedly attempting to converse before she boarded. Family members have indicated that Himashree expressed concerns during her journey, mentioning that some young men behaved inappropriately towards her. Investigators are also reviewing a video reportedly sent by her, depicting her surrounded by several men.

As the inquiry progresses, police have not yet established any links to potential criminal activity but are maintaining an open line of investigation regarding the events leading up to her death.

Focus on Circumstances Surrounding Her Disappearance

Law enforcement officials are considering multiple angles regarding how Himashree may have exited the moving train. A critical aspect of the investigation involves determining whether her departure from the train was accidental or if she was forcibly removed. Authorities are also examining the activities of passengers travelling in or around the S2 coach.

Police are diligently reviewing the movements of passengers within the vicinity of Himashree to gather more insights into the sequence of events that occurred before her disappearance. The railway police, alongside the Srikakulam district police, are assessing all relevant CCTV footage, video evidence, and call records linked to Himashree’s travel.

As investigations continue, police have yet to ascertain the definitive circumstances surrounding the death of Himashree Boro. The enquiry remains active as officials aim to uncover the truth behind this tragic incident.
