Amit Shah Lays Foundation Stone for Assam Police 10th Battalion HQ in Kamrup

The CSR Journal Magazine

On February 21, Union Home Minister Amit Shah inaugurated the foundation stone for the headquarters of the 10th Battalion of the Assam Police in Kamrup, Assam. The event gathered notable figures, including Assam Governor Lakshman Prasad Acharya, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, and Union Home Secretary, among others. In his address, Shah highlighted that under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership, Assam has witnessed development across various sectors. He anticipated that within the next five years, the state would emerge as the industrial hub of both eastern and northeastern India.

Land Recovery from Infiltrators

Shah underscored the previous government’s failure in managing the issue of illegal encroachments, stating that encroachers had once occupied 174 bighas of land, which has since been reclaimed by the current administration. He noted that this reclaiming of land was crucial for the safety of Guwahati and beyond. The minister characterized the existing encroachments as a significant obstacle to the region’s progress. The new headquarters, covering an area of 124 bighas, is designed to include facilities such as barracks for 750 male and 450 female officers, a small hospital, a training center, a firing range, a surveillance center, and a large sports complex.

Addressing Security Challenges

Amit Shah mentioned that the headquarters represents a critical step in addressing the security threats previously associated with the area. He accused the former government of overseeing the entrance of infiltrators, which had adversely affected Assam’s demographic balance. He pointed out that several districts, including Dhubri and Barpeta, had become dominated by these infiltrators, attributing responsibility for this situation to the opposition party. Shah claimed that their current administration aims to rectify the mistakes of past governments.

Future Government Initiatives

During his speech, Shah affirmed the government’s commitment to identify and deport infiltrators to ensure national security. He commended Prime Minister Modi’s resolve to expel these elements from the country, emphasizing the necessity of state cooperation in achieving this objective. He further criticized the opposition for allegedly benefiting from the existence of infiltrators and pledged that a new government formed by their party would work diligently to amend the electoral lists to remove such individuals.

Promoting Assam’s Cultural Identity

Shah highlighted the current government’s efforts to promote Assamese culture, stating that prominent figures such as Lachit Borphukan are now widely recognized throughout India due to initiatives supported by Prime Minister Modi. He reiterated that past administrations had neglected the region and failed to prioritize its development. In stark contrast, the current government has engaged in measures to enhance law and order over the past decade and has sought to connect women in Assam with self-help groups.

Development Initiatives and Employment Generation

Among the government’s initiatives, Shah noted the grant of land rights to 2.5 lakh landless indigenous people and the introduction of various schemes aimed at tea garden workers. The minister spoke about future projects, including a semiconductor plant with a significant investment of Rs 27,000 crore in Assam and transformative changes in the educational sector. He emphasized the need for a sustained commitment to building an Assam that is free from insurgency and poverty.
