In a significant crackdown on drug trafficking, Assam police seized narcotics worth approximately Rs 14 crore during two distinct operations in Cachar district on September 14. The first operation involved the confiscation of 2.2 kg of heroin valued at nearly Rs 13 crore from a truck near Sangai Hotel in the Ramnagar Bypass area, as reported by Cachar Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Partha Protim Das.

The authorities acted on specific intelligence when they intercepted the truck, registered as AS-01-NC-8893. They discovered 150 soap cases containing heroin hidden in a secret compartment within the vehicle. The truck was reportedly en route from Champhai district in Mizoram, leading to the apprehension of one Abdul Rahim Laskar, a local resident of French Nagar in Lailapur.

Legal proceedings have commenced, and a thorough investigation is ongoing to determine both the suppliers and recipients involved in the narcotics trade, according to SSP Das. This operation highlights the ongoing efforts of law enforcement to combat the growing issue of drug trafficking in the region.

Second Operation Results in Yaba Tablet Confiscation

In a second operation on the same day, the police apprehended a 23-year-old individual named Jairul Islam from Bhoirabpur Pt-I under Kalain police station. This operation took place in Gumrah Bazar where officers seized 10,000 Yaba tablets weighing around 1.309 kg. The estimated market value of these tablets is approximately Rs 1 crore.

According to the SSP, the tablets were located in a red carry bag that Jairul Islam possessed at the time of his arrest. This operation was also based on specific information regarding the suspect and his alleged activities in drug distribution.

The police have initiated the necessary legal actions following the seizure, and the investigation is proceeding to trace the origins and distribution networks associated with the Yaba tablets, further exposing the scale of drug trafficking in the area.

These operations come amid heightened efforts by Assam police to tackle the escalating drug problem affecting various communities. Narcotics, including heroin and Yaba tablets, have increasingly found their way into local markets, impacting public health and safety.
