Amit Shah Engages with Bharat Taxi Drivers, Highlights Cooperatives’ Profit Distribution

The CSR Journal Magazine

Union Home Minister Amit Shah held an interactive session with drivers associated with the Bharat Taxi app in New Delhi on February 23. This meeting focused on the cooperative framework of the ride-hailing service, which aims to ensure that profits are directed to the drivers, putting an end to the traditional model where substantial fees are deducted by platform owners. Shah emphasized that Bharat Taxi seeks to empower those who are actively working in the industry.

Drivers as Stakeholders in the Cooperative

During the interaction, Amit Shah outlined the primary distinction between Bharat Taxi and existing ride-hailing services. He stated, “The one who is working hard, the one who is toiling, should get the profit, not some rich man.” He noted that previous concerns regarding significant commission deductions from earnings led to the development of this cooperative initiative. This model allows drivers to become stakeholders, benefiting directly from the profits generated.

Regulatory Partnerships and Safety Enhancements

As part of its operations, Bharat Taxi has established a Memorandum of Understanding with the Delhi Traffic Police and Sahakar Taxi Cooperative Limited, enabling the app to operate 34 prepaid taxi booths across 21 strategic locations in Delhi. This partnership aims to bolster passenger safety and regulatory compliance while also enhancing driver income and service quality. A Joint Command and Control Centre has also been established in collaboration with the Delhi Traffic Police, incorporating real-time monitoring, emergency response features, and SOS alert systems for improved commuter security.

Digital Integration and Operational Efficiency

In another step towards modernization, Bharat Taxi has signed an agreement with the National e-Governance Division (NeGD) under the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology. This collaboration aims to integrate Bharat Taxi into the Digital India framework, facilitating features such as paperless onboarding and secure cashless transactions. This will ensure that drivers have unified access to government services, thus streamlining operational processes.

Last-Mile Connectivity Initiatives

Additionally, through a partnership with the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC), Bharat Taxi is implementing last-mile connectivity solutions at 10 major metro stations. This initiative will utilize various modes of transport, including bike taxis, e-autos, and traditional cabs, allowing passengers to plan and pay for comprehensive journeys from a single platform. This integration aims to enhance the efficiency of service delivery while increasing trip volumes and decreasing downtime for drivers.

Regulated Airport Operations and Discounts Offered

Moreover, an agreement with the Airports Authority of India (AAI) has been established to regulate Bharat Taxi services at airports nationwide. This regulation covers pickup zones, necessary signage, and compliance with security and service standards. Furthermore, in collaboration with Delhi Tourism and Transportation Development Corporation and Delhi Airport Parking Services (DAPS), Bharat Taxi will offer white cab services at various parking spots across Indira Gandhi International Airport. To promote these services, DAPS will provide a 20 percent discount on the pickup fee for the initial year, complementing the existing Kaali Peeli services and stimulating increased ride volumes from the airport.
