Amit Shah Criticizes Congress Over Border Infiltration in Assam

The CSR Journal Magazine

Union Home Minister Amit Shah addressed concerns regarding illegal infiltration in Assam during a public meeting on Friday, attributing the issue to the extended rule of the Congress party in the state. Shah accused Congress of having “left our borders open to infiltrators,” suggesting that this negligence was a deliberate attempt to change the demographic landscape of Assam. His remarks came as the state prepares for upcoming elections, where the BJP aims to retain its governance.

Praise for Current BJP Governance

While addressing attendees, Shah highlighted the achievements of the current BJP administration led by Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma. He commended the government’s efforts in recovering land that had been occupied by infiltrators, stating, “Our chief minister has worked diligently to clear lakhs of acres from illegal occupants.” He called on voters to support the BJP once again, expressing a commitment to repatriate all infiltrators who had entered during the Congress tenure.

Development Initiatives Under BJP

Shah also took the opportunity to showcase the infrastructural developments made during the BJP’s time in office, contrasting them with what he described as the stagnation during Congress’s governance. He claimed, “What Congress failed to achieve in fifty years, we have accomplished in merely ten.” Specifically, he noted that in the past five years, the government constructed 14 kilometers of roads daily and established hundreds of new bridges, including several major ones.

Former Congress Leader Now BJP Chief Minister

It is notable that Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma was formerly affiliated with Congress before transitioning to the BJP in 2015. His departure from Congress was marked by tensions within the party, after which he became a significant figure within the BJP, eventually succeeding Sarbananda Sonowal as chief minister.

Launch of Vibrant Villages Programme

During his visit, Shah also inaugurated the second phase of the Vibrant Villages Programme in Assam. This initiative is set to benefit 1,954 border villages across 15 states and two Union Territories, indicating a continued focus on improving infrastructure in border areas. The unveiling took place in Cachar district, as part of his two-day itinerary focused on infrastructure projects and public engagements in the election-time landscape of Assam.

Two-Day Visit to Assam

The Union Home Minister’s current visit is aimed at launching various border infrastructure initiatives and to connect with the electorate in Assam ahead of the elections. His remarks have underscored a strong political message as the BJP gears up for the crucial electoral contest, aiming to solidify its standing in a state that has faced various challenges related to infiltration and development.
