The CSR Journal Magazine

National Security Adviser Ajit Doval engaged in high-level discussions with Vietnam’s Minister of Public Security, General Luong Tam Quang, on Monday. The talks aimed to enhance security cooperation between India and Vietnam, as reported by the Press Trust of India. This meeting is part of Doval’s official visit to Vietnam, which commenced on Sunday.

The Indian Embassy in Hanoi confirmed the meeting, highlighting the significance of bilateral security cooperation as a reflection of the enduring civilisational partnership between the two nations. Both leaders reportedly exchanged insights on various regional and global developments during their discussions.

In addition to his meeting with General Luong Tam Quang, Doval also met with General Phan Van Giang, who serves as Vietnam’s Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of National Defence. This meeting focused on reviewing the current status of bilateral defence cooperation between the two countries.

Strengthening Bilateral Defence Cooperation

During the discussions with General Phan Van Giang, both parties agreed to continue strengthening their defence ties. The Indian Embassy noted that the collaboration in the defence sector is crucial for both nations and is a key component of their upgraded partnership. The ongoing defence cooperation reflects the commitment of both countries to work together in addressing common security challenges.

Doval’s visit aligns with the Enhanced Comprehensive Strategic Partnership established between India and Vietnam. This partnership was elevated during the visit of Vietnamese President To Lam to India in May, when both countries set an ambitious annual trade target of $25 billion by the year 2030. The discussions held during Doval’s visit are expected to further solidify these commitments.

The focus on security and defence cooperation remains a pivotal aspect of the relationship between India and Vietnam. Both nations have a shared interest in ensuring stability and security in the region, which has led to increased collaboration in various sectors, including defence.

Future Prospects Of India-Vietnam Relations

The talks between Doval and the Vietnamese leaders are indicative of the growing strategic partnership between the two countries. As regional dynamics continue to evolve, both nations recognise the importance of maintaining robust security ties. The discussions are expected to lead to more concrete actions in the near future, aimed at enhancing their collaborative efforts.

Officials from both sides have expressed optimism about the potential for increased cooperation in various fields, including intelligence sharing and joint training exercises. The commitment to deepen these ties is seen as a significant step towards addressing mutual security concerns and enhancing regional stability.

As India and Vietnam continue to strengthen their partnership, the focus on security and defence is likely to remain a priority. The outcomes of Doval’s discussions may pave the way for further initiatives that will bolster the strategic alliance, benefiting both nations in their pursuit of peace and security in the region.
