AIADMK Promises Free LPG, Fridge and ₹10,000 Aid in Tamil Nadu Manifesto

The CSR Journal Magazine

The All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK) launched its manifesto for the upcoming Tamil Nadu Assembly elections on Tuesday. Party General Secretary Edappadi K. Palaniswami presented the document at the party’s headquarters in Chennai. The manifesto features a range of welfare measures and development initiatives aimed at alleviating the cost of living and enhancing livelihoods for the state’s residents. Economic relief and social welfare are emphasized as critical themes in the party’s electoral campaign.

Key Promises for Families

A significant feature of the manifesto is the introduction of a monthly assistance program that will provide Rs 10,000 to each family. This initiative is intended to help mitigate the impact of soaring prices and tax burdens. Moreover, the party proposes a direct cash benefit of Rs 2,000 for women each month, further illustrating its commitment to supporting families. The manifesto also includes provisions for free bus travel for both men and women, expanding on existing public transport subsidies.

Household Support and Food Security Measures

In its efforts to reduce household expenses, AIADMK promises to supply three free LPG cylinders annually to every family. The party’s commitment to food security and essential supplies is underscored by pledges to distribute 1 kg of lentils and 1 liter of cooking oil at no cost to those holding ration cards, in addition to the ongoing provision of rice. Notably, the AIADMK has also proposed that female heads of households with rice ration cards will receive free refrigerators, aimed at enhancing household infrastructure.

Comprehensive List of Commitments

The manifesto outlines a total of 297 promises across various sectors of welfare and development. Palaniswami emphasized that generating employment and promoting agricultural growth would be among the primary objectives should the party regain power. This indicates a combined approach focusing on both social assistance and economic development.

Continuity with Previous Welfare Policies

While revealing the manifesto, Palaniswami highlighted that the current welfare commitments build upon the legacy of former Chief Minister J. Jayalalithaa, who had previously introduced items such as free fans, mixies, and grinders during the 2011 Assembly elections. After taking office, she commenced the distribution of these items on September 15, which is celebrated as the birth anniversary of CN Annadurai, a founding member of the AIADMK.

Seat-Sharing Agreement with NDA Partners

The manifesto release coincides with the announcement of a seat-sharing arrangement within the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) for the 234-member Tamil Nadu Assembly. The AIADMK will contest 178 seats, while its alliance partner, the BJP, will contest 27. Other allies include the Pattali Makkal Katchi with 18 seats and the Amma Makkal Munnetra Kazhagam with 11 seats. Palaniswami expressed confidence in the alliance’s strength and its capability to secure a commanding mandate.

Opposition Criticism and Election Timeline

Union Minister Piyush Goyal has criticized the opposition coalition comprising the DMK and Congress, asserting that Tamil Nadu voters are seeking enhanced governance, development, and opportunities for both youth and women. The Tamil Nadu Assembly elections are scheduled for April 23, with voting results expected to be announced on May 4.
