The Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) has successfully planted 50 lakh trees as part of its ‘Mission Five Million Trees’. This milestone was celebrated on October 8, 2026, when Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel participated in a tree plantation event in Bhadaj under the Seva, Sankalp and Samarpan Abhiyan.

In attendance alongside the Chief Minister were Cabinet Minister Rushikesh Patel, Mayor Hitesh Barot, and several other dignitaries. Their involvement highlights the significance of the initiative in promoting environmental sustainability in the region.

More than one lakh trees have been planted across an area of 66,600 square metres at the Bhadaj Plantation Plot. This site, spanning approximately 85,000 square metres, features over 38 different species of trees, further contributing to biodiversity in the area.

Overview of Mission Five Million Trees

Launched in 2019, the Mission Million Trees campaign by the AMC aimed to significantly increase tree cover in Ahmedabad. The target for tree planting has reportedly been raised annually since the campaign’s initiation, reflecting the commitment of local authorities to enhance green spaces across the city.

This year, the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation set an ambitious goal of planting 50 lakh trees for World Environment Day. The successful accomplishment of this target reinforces the municipality’s dedication to environmental conservation and urban greening.

Under the Mission Five Million Trees umbrella, extensive plantation activities will take place along major roadways, dividers, public spaces, gardens, and other available open areas within Ahmedabad. This initiative is intended to create a more conducive environment for residents and wildlife alike.

Encouraging Citizen Engagement in Tree Planting

A special drive is also planned to transform residential societies into ‘Green Societies’. This initiative encourages residents to engage in tree planting within their own premises or neighbourhoods, fostering a sense of community ownership and responsibility towards environmental conservation.

Civilians interested in participating in tree planting activities can register via the AMC Seva App. Following registration, teams from the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation will assist in executing these plantation efforts at no cost, enabling broader access and participation in the campaign.
