Andhra Pradesh: College Fresher Brutally Ragged, Electrocuted by Seniors at Govt College

The CSR Journal Magazine

In a deeply troubling case of ragging, a first-year intermediate student of Dachepalli Government Junior College in Palnadu district, Andhra Pradesh, was allegedly assaulted, tortured, and given electric shocks by a group of second-year students. The incident, which has sparked outrage both online and offline, reportedly occurred in the college’s hostel premises recently.

According to initial reports, the accused, five second-year students, all minors, took the victim to the BC Hostel, where they physically assaulted him. The attackers allegedly used electric wires to shock the victim, while also slapping, kicking, and humiliating him. One outsider, not affiliated with the college, is also believed to have taken part in the assault.

Ragging Caught on Camera, Video Viral

A video of the incident has gone viral on social media, drawing widespread condemnation. In the disturbing footage, the victim is seen sitting on the floor while one of the accused sits on a chair in front of him, suggesting a power dynamic. As the assault continues, one boy brings what appears to be an electric wire and prepares to shock the victim, despite his repeated pleas for mercy.

The accused reportedly filmed the entire episode and later issued death threats to the victim, warning him not to report the incident.

Family Files Complaint, Police Begin Probe

The victim’s parents have filed a formal police complaint, following which a probe has been launched. Authorities are investigating the involvement of the minors under juvenile justice laws, while also identifying the outsider who assisted in the assault.

No arrests have been confirmed yet, but officials said action would be taken based on the findings.

Public Outrage, Student Protests Intensify

The incident has sparked protests by student associations, who gathered outside the college demanding justice and strong action against those involved. Protesters have criticized the college administration for its silence and apparent lack of oversight.

So far, the college has not issued an official statement, further fueling public anger.

Similar Case reported in Kerala

This case follows another violent ragging incident reported in Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala, in July, where three school students were beaten by second year students, leaving them seriously injured. That video also went viral, and seven students were suspended.

The latest case in Andhra Pradesh has once again raised serious concerns over student safety, ragging culture, and the failure of institutions to prevent such incidents.
