Could Your Next Zepto Delivery Turn Violent? Bengaluru Man Left with Skull Fracture After Shocking Assault!

A Bengaluru-based businessman has accused a Zepto delivery executive of physically assaulting him following a dispute over a delivery address. The incident, which was caught on CCTV, occurred on May 21 in Judges Colony, Basaveshwaranagar. The victim, Shashank S, 30, stated that he may require surgery due to a fractured skull sustained in the altercation.

Argument Erupts Over Address Mismatch

According to the victim, Shashank, the problem started when his sister-in-law went to pick up a Zepto grocery order that his wife had placed. Vishnuvardhan, the delivery agent, allegedly started yelling at her after she gave the incorrect address.

The altercation descended into violence when Shashank intervened. Shashank wanted to diffuse the tension and inquire about the delivery executive’s aggressive behavior.

Victim’s Statement

The victim said, “On May 21, my wife placed an order on Zepto. The Zepto delivery boy named Vishnuvardhan brought the items to our address. When he arrived, my sister-in-law went out to collect the order. As she approached him, he suddenly started ranting, claiming the address was wrong.” He added that when he questioned the delivery boy over his behaviour, he started thrashing him.

“I had to undergo a CT scan and several tests at the hospital. The doctor has informed me that the bone underneath my eye is fractured. If it doesn’t heal within a week, I will have to undergo surgery,” he added.

“When you order something from Zepto tomorrow, I don’t want you to go through what I went through. This is the message I want to convey to everyone, and that’s why I made this video and that’s why I made this video and uploaded it,” he said.

Physical Assault Caught on CCTV

CCTV footage of the incident shows Shashank and his sister-in-law having a discussion with the Zepto agent, identified as Vishnuvardhan, outside their home. During the talks, he suddenly gets enraged and attacks the customer. He abruptly starts assaulting Shashank during the conversation, repeatedly punching him in the head and face before fleeing the scene.

Following the attack, Shashank had to seek medical attention, he underwent a CT scan. The bone beneath his eye was found to be fractured. The doctors advised that if it doesn’t heal in a week, surgery may be required. Shahsank made an official police complaint and an investigation into the matter is underway.

Police Register Case Under New Penal Code

Following the complaint by the victim, the Basaveshwaranagar police have registered a case under the Bharatiya Nyay Sanhita (BNS), 2023. As per the report, police have registered an FIR against the Zepto delivery agent under sections 115 (voluntarily causing hurt), 126 (wrongful restraint), 351 (criminal intimidation), and 352 (intentional insult with intent to provoke breach of peace).

Zepto Responds, Assures Action

Zepto issued a brief statement expressing regret over the incident, stating, “We regret any inconvenience caused. Professional conduct is essential to us, we’ll make sure this is addressed,” it said. The company has yet to announce any disciplinary action publicly.

Rising Concerns Over Delivery Agent Conduct

The recent incident adds to a growing number of violent confrontations involving delivery agents in the country. In a separate but similar case in February, a food delivery in Ghaziabad turned violent. This comes after an agent, angered by a delayed response, allegedly called accomplices to assault the customer. The delivery agent and his accomplices brutally assaulted the customer and another person present, using weapons including sticks and knives.

Meanwhile the authorities are continuing their investigation into the Bengaluru incident.
