Yash Dabas has been elected as the President of the Delhi University Students’ Union (DUSU), leading the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) to secure victories in all three central-panel positions. Dabas garnered 24,576 votes, surpassing his nearest rival, Vijay Meena from the National Students’ Union of India (NSUI), who received 22,523 votes.

Following his victory, Dabas outlined his immediate objectives, with a focus on enhancing safety for student accommodations. His first initiative will involve advocating for comprehensive safety audits in hostels and paying guest (PG) facilities, coupled with plans for the construction of new hostels specifically for women.

Dabas expressed the urgency of these measures amidst ongoing concerns regarding student accommodation safety, particularly highlighted by the recent tragedy of the Satya Niketan building collapse. “First, the safety audit of every PG and hostel should be done. Additionally, the construction of new hostels is imperative. Every college should have a girls’ hostel,” he stated in an interview with ANI.

He emphasised the need for new girls’ hostels at every college and the establishment of helpline numbers for students residing in various accommodations.
