Yami Gautam Requests Media to Use Unaltered Photos Amid AI Concerns

The CSR Journal Magazine

Actor Yami Gautam has formally urged media organisations to refrain from employing artificial intelligence to alter or enhance her public appearance photographs. In a recent post on X, the National Award-winning actor expressed her desire for her images to be used in their authentic form, emphasising the importance of maintaining an individual’s image and likeness without unapproved modifications.

She stated, “A sincere request to the media. Please refrain from using AI to alter or enhance my photographs from public appearances. Kindly use images in original form. Altering or manipulating an individual’s image or likeness using AI should not be done without their knowledge and consent. Thank you in advance for respecting my request!”

This statement reflects her growing concern regarding the misuse of AI technologies, particularly in the context of public figures, highlighting the ongoing debate over authenticity and consent in image representation.

Broader Concerns Over AI Image Manipulation

Yami Gautam’s appeal comes at a time when there are increasing apprehensions about the unethical use of artificial intelligence to modify images and videos of celebrities without their permission. Recently, high-profile incidents involving other actors, such as Janhvi Kapoor and Jr NTR, have drawn significant attention to this issue.

A notable case involved an AI-morphed, sexually explicit video featuring Janhvi Kapoor that gained widespread attention, prompting strong backlash from both her and the wider film community. Jr NTR condemned the modified video, labelling it as “disgusting, sick and shameless,” while veteran actor Chiranjeevi also voiced his disapproval, denouncing the misuse of AI to create degrading content, especially targeting women.

This surge of incidents has sparked a dialogue within the industry about the ethical boundaries of AI and the need for consent when using technology that affects personal images.

Yami Gautam’s Upcoming Film and Career Developments

On the professional front, Yami Gautam is set to star in the upcoming film Nayyi Navelli. The movie aims to combine elements of fantasy, family drama, dark humour, and Indian folklore, attracting attention for its unique narrative approach. In the film, she portrays the character of Mohini, whose entrance into a bustling household in Meerut leads to unexpected developments.

Mohini is depicted as a seemingly picture-perfect bride who quickly ingratiates herself with her new family through her culinary skills. However, beneath her charming facade, there are complexities that unfold throughout the story. Directed by Balaji Mohan and penned by writers Himanshu Sharma and Divy Nidhi Sharma, the film promises to offer an engaging viewing experience.

The film is produced by Aanand L Rai and Himanshu Sharma under the Colour Yellow banner, marking its inaugural collaboration with Amazon MGM Studios. Music for the project has been composed by GV Prakash Kumar, adding another layer of anticipation to its release. Nayyi Navelli is scheduled to premiere in theatres on October 16, further enhancing Yami Gautam’s portfolio in the Indian film industry.
