WNS Under Its CSR Launches Mobile Libraries For Under-Privileged Children

WNS Cares Foundation (WCF) announced the launch of three mobile libraries in Mumbai, Pune & Vizag. WCF is the Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) arm of WNS (Holdings) Limited, a Business Process Management services company.

With a fleet of eight vans, WCF plans to reach out to over 8,000 children through their mobile libraries that will be stationed at underserved areas across Mumbai, Chennai, Nashik, Pune and Vizag.

WCF has refurbished old vans and converted them into ‘libraries on wheels’. Each van which will be stationed in location that will be carrying over 2,500 books in different languages. With each library having a teacher onboard to provide basic teaching on academic concepts to the children who visit the library.

“Despite all the progress the country has made, there are still areas where children are unable to attend school for various reasons. To help these children, we introduced the concept of mobile library in 2014, and I am delighted to see that it is creating a huge impact, and now reaching out to over 8,000 children in 5 cities. At WCF, our mission is to revolutionize the concept of holistic learning across the globe and eliminate the divide that exists,” said Keshav R. Murugesh, Group CEO, WNS.

The mobile libraries will be equipped with a solar inverter, a water dispenser and an umbrella for the kids to spread out. In addition to this, the vans will also have a computer supported by a fast speed internet. The idea behind being is to expose the children to world of technology and provide them with access to more reading material.

Volunteers from the foundation will also travel with the vans to conduct other activities and programs for these children.

WCF had first launched its first mobile library in 2014 in Mumbai. Since then, they has added more mobile libraries in Mumbai and launched one each in Chennai and Nashik as well. The foundation also runs different programs that incorporate e-Mentoring, Computer Literacy, Dictionary learning, self-defense workshops, etc.
