“We call on all countries to hold aggressors accountable”: Iran’s Consul General in Mumbai

The CSR Journal Magazine

Mumbai’s Iranian Consul General, Saeid Reza Mosayeb Motlagh, emphasized the necessity for the international community to engage with aggressor nations and demand an end to conflict. In an interview, Motlagh called for a united approach, urging nations to hold aggressors accountable under the Charter of the United Nations and international law.

He expressed concerns that the cyclical nature of aggression has historically led to the devastation of countries at the discretion of those wielding power. He highlighted the importance of addressing the issue through diplomatic channels and recommended a proactive stance towards dialogue with parties responsible for initiation of hostilities.

Iran’s Stance on Economic Impacts

When questioned about Iran’s influence on the global economic landscape amid ongoing tensions in West Asia, Motlagh attributed responsibility to those who initiated military actions against Iran. He asserted that Iran’s responses have been purely defensive in nature. He pointed out that as a significant oil producer, sanctions against Iran adversely affect global oil markets, perpetuating a historical pattern of hostility towards his country. This hostility, according to Motlagh, has escalated to include direct military confrontations, exacerbating the current global challenges.

The Strait of Hormuz and Regional Stability

Motlagh addressed concerns regarding Iran’s potential closure of the Strait of Hormuz, a critical passage for oil shipments. He clarified that such measures have been considered only in the context of hostile actions against Iran. He noted the existential threat posed to Iran by ongoing conflicts, stating that all national resources have been mobilized to address these threats. However, he reassured that Iran has refrained from closing the vital waterway for the benefit of global trade, especially taking into account nations like India, choosing instead to restrict access to entities linked with adversarial interests.

Calls for Conditions to Facilitate Negotiations

Amid rising global oil prices amidst the conflict, Motlagh expressed Iran’s readiness for negotiations, contingent upon specific prerequisites being met. He conveyed optimism for dialogue, asserting that international engagement is paramount to averting further assaults in the future. Motlagh reiterated Iran’s commitment to diplomatic solutions, contrasting it with what he termed as evidence of adversarial nations’ reluctance to engage constructively. Holding aggressor nations accountable, he stressed, is vital given the challenges and crises experienced due to their actions.

US and Iran: Increased Tensions and Nuclear Discussions

In a related context, US President Donald Trump remarked on Iran’s nuclear capabilities, stating that the nation has agreed not to pursue nuclear weapons. He highlighted this development as an opportunity for Iran to curtail its perceived threats toward the US and its allies. Trump further declared that the dismantling of Iran’s defensive infrastructure has significantly reduced its military capacities. These statements come amid rising concerns regarding regional stability and the implications of Iran’s actions on international peace.
