WB State Health Department Reinforces Biometric Attendance for Junior Doctors Amid Strong Retaliation from Medical Associations

The CSR Journal Magazine

In a major administrative push to ensure workplace discipline, the State Health Department has officially made face-based biometric attendance mandatory for junior doctors across government medical colleges. The move follows recent controversies and allegations surrounding duty rosters, prompting strict oversight from the health administration.

State Authorities Heighten Scrutiny over Duty Roster Irregularities

However, the decision has triggered a sharp political and administrative face-off. Expressing strong disapproval over absenteeism and alleged irregularities, the Health Minister issued a stern warning targeting a section of the medical community.

Reacting strongly to the government’s stance and the remarks made, prominent junior doctor representative Asfakulla Naiya launched a counter-attack against the administration. Accusing the authorities of stifling dissent, Naiya remarked, “Whenever we raise legitimate questions or demand accountability, we are instantly labeled as Maoists.”

Key Highlights of the New Order:

* Mandatory Biometric Tracking: Fache-recognition attendance systems are being strictly implemented for interns, house staff, and Post-Graduate Trainees (PGTs).
* In-and-Out Compliance: Doctors must register their entry and exit times digitally, while formal prior intimation to departmental heads is now required for any leave.
* Heightened Scrutiny: The move aims to curb growing complaints regarding duty irregularities and ensure transparency within state-run medical facilities.

The implementation of these tighter protocols has further intensified the ongoing friction between the state health authorities and junior medical practitioners, setting the stage for deeper debates on institutional governance and professional rights.
