Viral Video Sparks Concerns Over Plastic Contamination in Packaged Eggs

The CSR Journal Magazine

A video that has gained significant attention on Instagram is raising alarms regarding the quality of eggs sold under the Eggoz brand. In the footage, a consumer named Shalini Sharma asserts that the eggs ordered through the Zepto delivery service contained what she describes as plastic-like strands after being boiled.

Allegation of “Plastic-Like” Material

In the viral clip, Sharma is seen displaying boiled eggs that appear to have yellow, thread-like substances emerging from them. She claims these substances, which surfaced during cooking, were not yolks but a foreign plastic material. “Until now, we had only heard that fake or plastic eggs were being sold in the market, but today I witnessed an example in my own home,” she explains in the video. She ordered Eggoz Everyday brand eggs from Zepto, and upon boiling them, she claims plastic began to seep out.

Sharma highlights the cracked eggs in the video, stating, “You can see in the video yourself, plastic is coming out in the form of noodles. Each egg has the Eggoz Everyday stamp on it. Look at how plastic fake eggs are reaching our homes.” She further emphasizes her concerns, noting, “If they had been cooked in another way, we might not even have realized we were consuming plastic. These boiled eggs burst, and that is how we found out it was plastic.”

Social Media Reactions Pour In

The video has rapidly circulated online, drawing numerous reactions from viewers expressing shock and concern regarding food safety standards. Many commenters tagged both the brand and the delivery service, urging for an explanation regarding the alleged contamination.

Brand Responds to Complaint

In a response posted in the comments section, Eggoz acknowledged the situation, stating, “We’re really sorry to hear about your experience and completely understand your concern. This is not the kind of situation we ever want our customers to face. Kindly DM us your contact information and our customer support team will connect with you to resolve this at the earliest. Thank you for bringing this to our attention.”

Despite the brand’s attempt to address the issue, there was a considerable dialogue in the comments section regarding the potential hazards of consuming low-quality food items. Many users tagged the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI), calling for an intervention regarding this matter.
