Vaibhav Sooryavanshi Opts Out of Class 10 Board Exams for IPL 2026

The CSR Journal Magazine

Vaibhav Sooryavanshi, a promising 14-year-old cricketer from Tajpur, Bihar, has chosen not to attend his Class 10 board examinations this academic year. This decision comes after his significant contributions to India’s Under-19 cricket team, which recently clinched the World Cup title. Speculation regarding his examination participation had surrounded his growing cricket commitments, ultimately leading to his withdrawal from the exams.

Having spent a considerable part of 2025 on various international tours representing both the India Under-19 team and briefly the India A squad, Sooryavanshi has faced challenges in balancing his academic preparation. He is currently enrolled in Modesty School in Tajpur and was set to take his Class 10 board exams from February 17 to March 11. However, his coach, Manish Ojha, confirmed that Sooryavanshi is prioritizing his cricket career, especially with the Indian Premier League (IPL) on the horizon.

Ojha indicated that the young cricketer is already in Nagpur, honing his skills for the forthcoming IPL season. Sooryavanshi is expected to make a significant impact for the Rajasthan Royals in IPL 2026 after a standout debut in the previous season. The coach stated, “He won’t be giving the Class X exams. He is currently in Nagpur preparing for the upcoming IPL. He has already joined Rajasthan Royals for a pre-season camp.”

Examination Center’s Principal Addresses Situation

Earlier, Neel Kishore, the principal of Podar International School in Samastipur, where Sooryavanshi was scheduled to take his examinations, had expressed confidence in the young athlete’s participation. Kishore noted that, despite Sooryavanshi’s rise to stardom, he would not receive any special treatment regarding the board exams. However, with his recent decision, the young player will not be taking the tests this year.

Record-Setting Performance at ICC U-19 World Cup

Sooryavanshi’s performance in the ICC Under-19 World Cup 2026 was nothing short of spectacular. He emerged as a standout player during the tournament, most notably for his remarkable innings of 175 runs off just 80 balls in the final against England, which is regarded as one of the greatest performances in the tournament’s history. His innings was notable for its aggressive striking, including 15 fours and 15 sixes, setting a new record for the most maximums hit in a single U-19 World Cup innings.

Throughout the competition, Sooryavanshi was the second-highest run scorer, accumulating a total of 439 runs in seven matches and achieving an impressive average of 62.71 alongside a striking rate nearing 170. He contributed one century and three half-centuries to India’s successful title defense and was awarded both the Player of the Match in the final and the Player of the Tournament honors.

In addition to his batting prowess, Sooryavanshi set a new record for the most sixes in U19 World Cup history, smashing a total of 30 sixes, significantly surpassing Dewald Brevis’ previous record of 18 sixes.
