Uttar Pradesh Horror: Man Kills Wife Over Secret Phone Use, Tries To Cover Crime ‘Drishyam’-Style

The CSR Journal Magazine

What began as a routine missing person complaint in Uttar Pradesh’s Gorakhpur district has ended in a disturbing murder case. A 26-year-old woman, Khushbu, initially believed to have left her home voluntarily, was found buried behind her house days later. Her husband, Arjun, has been accused of killing her and attempting to mislead both relatives and the police.

Search Efforts Yield No Clues

Arjun, a labourer who had recently returned from Ludhiana, told family members and villagers that Khushbu had disappeared without informing anyone. Concerned relatives from both her maternal and marital sides searched for her across nearby areas. Despite days of effort, no information surfaced, deepening doubts around her sudden disappearance.

Father’s Suspicion Leads to Breakthrough

As uncertainty grew, Arjun’s father, Shyam Narayan, approached the police with a startling suspicion that his own son may have killed his wife. He informed officers that Khushbu had been missing for nearly five days and urged them to investigate Arjun’s role. Acting on the complaint, police detained Arjun for questioning.

Conflicting Stories Raise Red Flags

During interrogation, Arjun reportedly gave multiple versions of events. He initially claimed Khushbu had died by suicide and that her body had been disposed of in a nearby river. Police took him to the riverbank, where he allegedly tried to confuse investigators for hours without identifying any exact location. His inconsistent statements eventually led officers to intensify questioning.

Police say Arjun later confessed, citing ongoing marital disputes. He allegedly suspected his wife of communicating secretly with someone else via a mobile phone. Frequent arguments followed, and on the night of December 21, when the couple was alone, the conflict escalated tragically.

Body Recovered After Excavation

Following the confession, police excavated a spot behind the house identified by Arjun and recovered Khushbu’s body buried several feet underground. The remains were sent for post-mortem examination to determine the exact cause of death.

A formal case has been registered based on a complaint by Arjun’s younger brother. The couple had been married for two years and had no children. Senior police officials said further action would depend on forensic and medical reports as the investigation continues.
