UP’s Ganga Expressway Completed, Cuts Travel Time and Enhances Connectivity

The CSR Journal Magazine

Uttar Pradesh’s ambitious Ganga Expressway, a 594-kilometre-long access-controlled highway connecting Meerut to Prayagraj, has been completed and is set to be inaugurated on January 15, 2026. The announcement was made by Awanish K. Awasthi, Advisor to the Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister, who said all major structures along the route are now ready for use.

Hardoi Emerges as a Key Corridor

The longest stretch of the expressway, around 99.5 kilometres, passes through Hardoi district, making it a strategically crucial section of the project. The expressway runs across 13 districts and will dramatically reduce travel time between western and eastern Uttar Pradesh. In Hardoi alone, three major entry and exit points have been developed to ensure smooth access for local residents and businesses.

Boost to Trade, Industry and Logistics

Officials say the expressway will serve as a catalyst for industrial growth. A modern logistics hub is being developed on 337 acres of land in Hardoi district, featuring warehouses, transport infrastructure and cold storage facilities. The hub is expected to generate employment, attract private investment and strengthen supply chains across the region.

Stronger Road Network Across UP

The Ganga Expressway will also link with the Agra–Lucknow Expressway, creating a seamless road network across the state. In addition, a 90-kilometre Farrukhabad link expressway has been approved, further enhancing Hardoi’s role as a major transport and logistics hub. These connections are expected to benefit freight movement and passenger travel alike.

Designed for the Future

The expressway has been constructed with six lanes and provisions for future expansion to eight lanes. Once operational, it is expected to significantly boost tourism, trade and daily commuting while easing pressure on existing highways.

Project Cost and Developers

The project has been built at an estimated cost of ₹42,000 crore under the Design, Build, Finance, Operate and Transfer (DBFOT) model. IRB Infrastructure Developers constructed a 129-kilometre stretch between Meerut and Badaun, while Adani Enterprises developed three other sections with a long-term concession period.

With its completion, the Ganga Expressway is set to redefine Uttar Pradesh’s transport landscape and drive large-scale economic development across the state.
