US President Trump Extends Holi Greetings, Remarks ‘Victory of Good over Evil’

The CSR Journal Magazine

On March 5, US President Donald Trump extended his heartfelt greetings to those observing Holi, the Hindu festival. He described this vibrant celebration as a tribute to the arrival of spring and the triumph of righteousness. The official message, released by White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt, expressed the support of the First Family for the festivities. In the statement, Trump remarked, “Melania and I send our best wishes to all who celebrate the Hindu festival of Holi, a day welcoming the arrival of spring and rejoicing in the victory of good over evil.”

The President emphasised the worldwide significance of Holi, stating, “Today, as communities gather around the world to celebrate this festival of colours, I wish all Americans who observe Holi a day filled with hope, peace, and unity.” Holi is popularly known as the festival of colours and is a prominent celebration in India and among the global Indian diaspora, symbolizing renewal, social harmony, and enhanced communal ties.

Cultural Celebrations Across the US

In the United States, the festive atmosphere reached the iconic skyline of New York City, where Times Square was adorned with celebratory displays on March 4. The Consulate General of India in New York shared moments of this vibrant celebration through social media, expressing, “Wishing everyone a vibrant and joyous Holi from the heart of New York City. #TimesSquare May this festival of colours bring renewed hope, harmony, and happiness to all.”

Messages from the Indian Embassy

In Washington, D.C., the Embassy of India conveyed its own greetings, noting that Holi has become a global emblem of multiculturalism and social equity. This highlights how the festival resonates beyond cultural boundaries, fostering a sense of unity and inclusivity among diverse communities.

Recognition of Holi in US States

The increasing influence of the Indian-American community was further underscored by a recent milestone in Texas, which became the third US state, joining Georgia and New York, in officially recognizing Holi. A resolution introduced by Senator Sarah Eckhardt was passed by the Texas Senate to honor this joyful event. The resolution articulated that “The origins of this jubilant festival can be traced back many millennia, and the holiday is recognised and celebrated throughout the world by people of all backgrounds who relate to the festival’s themes of love, renewal, and progress.”

This legislative acknowledgment received backing from the Hindu American Foundation (HAF), with the Texas Senate highlighting how Holi enriches cultural diversity and strengthens community bonds. The resolution reflects the growing recognition and appreciation for Hindu traditions within American society, promoting dialogues that bridge cultural differences.
