Under the dynamic leadership of Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, the state has witnessed unprecedented progress in the cooperative sector. The positive outcomes of the far-reaching reforms targeted schemes introduced to strengthen cooperative institutions are now clearly evident.
From loan disbursements to net profits, the sector has seen a three-five fold increase, marking a true renaissance of cooperatives in the state.
Loans worth Rs 9,190 crore
In 2017, the Uttar Pradesh Cooperative Bank disbursed loans worth Rs 9,190 crore. By 2025, this figure has surged to Rs 23,061 crore under the Yogi government. This marks as a testament to its effectiveness in economically empowering farmers and small entrepreneurs across the state.
The bank’s net profit, which stood at Rs 32.82 crore in 2017, has now crossed Rs 100 crore, registering a threefold increase. This remarkable growth highlights not only increased lending activity but also the impact of improved management practices and enhanced transparency.
Growth in rural economy
District cooperative banks have also demonstrated significant growth. Their total business now stands at Rs 41,234 crore, reflecting their growing role in the rural economy. The combined net profit of 50 district cooperative banks has jumped from Rs 36 crore in 2017 to Rs 162 crore today, a fivefold increase, showcasing the effectiveness of the government’s financial strategy and its commitment to the cooperative sector.
To support farmers, crop loan disbursements have doubled, rising to Rs 11,516 crore. This has ensured timely financial support for agricultural activities, contributing to increased farm productivity.
Services offered
Additionally, 13 new branches of cooperative banks have been established, and PACS have been upgraded into multi-service centers. These centers now offer a wide range of service, such as banking, seeds, fertilizers, and insurance, under one roof, enhancing convenience for rural communities.
Through these visionary initiatives, the Yogi government has set the cooperative sector on a firm path toward self-reliance and inclusive rural development.
