The Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh, Yogi Adityanath, undertook an aerial assessment and visited relief camps in Kushinagar on September 29, 2026, to evaluate the ongoing rescue operations due to severe flooding caused by a breach in the Narayani River embankment. This visit followed four consecutive days of heavy rainfall that resulted in extensive flooding across various parts of the state.

During his visit, CM Adityanath interacted directly with families displaced by the flooding and distributed essential relief packages. These packages included food staples such as rice, flour, lentils, and potatoes, aimed at supporting those temporarily housed on elevated ground. The Chief Minister emphasised the impact of the relentless rain on local communities and confirmed the presence of multiple disaster response teams engaged in relief efforts.

“Following four days of continuous torrential rain, various regions of the state have faced a severe calamity. Many homes have been inundated,” Adityanath stated, noting the deployment of two teams each from the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) and the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) to assist in the operations.

Immediate Evacuations Ordered by CM Adityanath

In response to the crisis, CM Adityanath instructed immediate evacuations of residents from areas at risk. The breach in the Narayani River’s AP embankment posed an immediate threat, sending floodwaters rushing towards nearby villages in Kushinagar. This proactive measure was part of a comprehensive strategy to mitigate the effects of the flooding and protect those in vulnerable situations.

Prior to this order, a high-level meeting was convened, which included key officials such as the Gorakhpur Commissioner, Additional Director General of Police, and the District Magistrate of Kushinagar. The discussions led to the mobilisation of administrative, police, and disaster management teams to facilitate effective rescue and relief operations across the affected areas.

The Chief Minister’s directives prompted a swift response from the NDRF and SDRF, who were tasked with conducting large-scale rescue missions in the region to aid those stranded by the floodwaters.

Commemorative Event Following Flood Response

Subsequent to his relief efforts, CM Adityanath participated in a commemorative programme in Gorakhpur, honouring the memory of Mahant Digvijay Nath on the 57th anniversary of his passing. This event served as a platform for reflecting on the historical significance of the Maharana Pratap Shiksha Parishad’s establishment during the British Raj.

In his address, the Chief Minister drew contrasts between individual foresight and broader societal vision, praising the visionary efforts of Mahant Digvijay Nath despite the scarcity of resources in the past. He highlighted the groundbreaking establishment of educational institutions that have effectively contributed to community development.

Mahant Digvijay Nath, revered as a significant figure in the Gorakhpur region, served as the Peethadheeshwar of the Goraksha Peeth from 1935 to 1969. His work and ideals continue to inspire future generations, as he dedicated his life to public service, spirituality, and cultural promotion.
