Unfortunate One Government is Taking Sole Credit for Ending Naxalism: Priyanka Chaturvedi

The CSR Journal Magazine

Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Priyanka Chaturvedi remarked on March 31 that attributing the success in combating Naxalism solely to one government is misleading. In statements made to the media, she emphasized that the struggle against this issue has been ongoing and involves various administrations. Chaturvedi described the current government’s assertions as “unfortunate” and asserted that action against Naxalism has been in motion since the tenure of the United Progressive Alliance (UPA). She expressed concern that one government should not claim exclusive credit for these efforts, highlighting the continuous nature of the fight against Naxalism.

Congress Defends Its Stance Amid Accusations

In related developments, Congress leader Manickam Tagore responded to Home Minister Amit Shah’s criticism, which accused the Congress government in Chhattisgarh of “shielding Naxalites.” Tagore strongly opposed Shah’s allegations, stating that his party has endured significant losses, including the deaths of numerous leaders, in the fight against Naxalism. He stated that the success attributed to the eradication of Naxalism should be credited to the security forces rather than political leaders engaging in rhetoric. Tagore criticized Shah for failing to represent the Ministry of Home Affairs effectively and suggested that his remarks were politically charged and lacked substance.

Amit Shah’s Critique of Opposition Leaders

These exchanges follow Amit Shah’s pointed remarks regarding Rahul Gandhi, the Leader of the Opposition in Lok Sabha. Shah accused Gandhi of consistently supporting Naxalism throughout his political career. He drew attention to a video tweet by Gandhi, which featured a protest at India Gate where pro-Naxal slogans were chanted in memory of Madvi Hidma, a Naxal leader killed by security forces last year. The Home Minister criticized the Congress party’s historical association with left-wing ideologies, citing that their actions have contributed to numerous fatalities over the decades.

Government’s Strategic Aim for Naxal-Free India

The “Naxal Mukt Bharat” initiative is a significant goal emphasized by the Union Home Ministry under the current administration, aimed at eradicating Left-Wing Extremism (LWE) by March 31, 2026. This strategy underscores the government’s commitment to address the complex issue of Naxalism, which has troubled various regions of the country for years. The ongoing debate about political responsibilities and credit in this matter indicates a larger discourse on how to tackle such challenges effectively.
