Ujjain Railway Cop Brutally Assaults Disabled Man For Sleeping on Platform, Video Goes Viral

The CSR Journal Magazine

A disturbing case of police brutality was reported from Madhya Pradesh after a Government Railway Police (GRP) head constable was filmed assaulting a man with disabilities at Nagda railway station in Ujjain district. The incident occurred on Tuesday morning, coinciding ironically with the International Day of Persons with Disabilities, and widely circulated online, leading to strong public condemnation.

Viral Video Shows Repeated Assault

The video, recorded by a passenger travelling in an AC coach, shows the disabled man sleeping on Platform Number 1 with his bag beside him when Head Constable Mansingh, dressed in civilian clothes, approached him.

Moments later, the constable is seen slapping the man multiple times, then kicking him as he struggles to gather his belongings and leave the platform in tears. The footage spread rapidly across social media, drawing backlash from activists, passengers, and citizens nationwide.

Immediate Suspension After Backlash

Following the viral spread of the video, GRP Superintendent of Police Padmavilochan Shukla ordered the immediate suspension of Head Constable Mansingh within hours. According to the suspension order, the officer’s conduct brought disrepute to the Railway Police and violated service rules under the Madhya Pradesh Police Regulations. Mansingh was transferred to the Railway Police Line in Indore and barred from leaving headquarters without permission during his suspension.

Constable’s Defense Fails to Convince

Mansingh later claimed that the victim was intoxicated and using abusive language, an explanation that did little to justify the excessive force captured in the video. Authorities noted that regardless of the man’s condition, the assault represented a severe breach of discipline and misuse of authority.

Widespread Anger on a Sensitive Day

The timing of the incident deepened public outrage, as December 3 is observed globally to highlight the dignity and rights of persons with disabilities. Instead of support and protection, the visuals from Ujjain revealed a shocking case of mistreatment by a law enforcement officer.

The incident has renewed demands for stronger accountability mechanisms within the police force and better safeguards for vulnerable individuals.
