Twisha Sharma’s Family Criticizes Bail for Accused In-Laws, Demands AIIMS Delhi Post-Mortem

The CSR Journal Magazine

The family of 33-year-old Twisha Sharma, who died under suspicious circumstances in Bhopal on May 12, has raised allegations of mental harassment and dowry-related abuse by her in-laws. Her relatives emphasise their worries regarding the ongoing investigation and the decision to grant bail to the accused. Twisha was married to Samarth Singh from Bhopal in December 2025, and her family claims she faced ongoing harassment following the marriage.

Navnidhi Sharma, Twisha’s father, spoke out about the police’s arguments in court, highlighting the influential nature of the accused and expressing concerns about the potential for evidence tampering. He questioned the rationale behind the bail granted to one of the accused, suggesting that it undermines the integrity of the investigation.

“The police raised valid points regarding the influential background of the accused that could lead to evidence being tampered with,” he stated. He further expressed doubts about the judicial process, stating, “If the police’s argument holds true, then granting bail to the first accused is questionable.” The family is advocating for a thorough and fair inquiry into the circumstances surrounding Twisha’s death.

Contention Over Bail Decisions

A relative of Twisha highlighted alleged discrepancies in the bail orders, noting that the reasons for denying bail to her husband were later utilised to approve bail for his mother. “How can such double standards exist in the administration of justice?” he asked, questioning the motivations behind the differing bail outcomes.

Frustrated with the procedural delays, he urged the authorities to allow for the transfer of Twisha’s body to AIIMS Delhi for a second post-mortem. “We seek to ensure accurate findings that might emerge from an independent examination,” he remarked, indicating that the family is not satisfied with the initial post-mortem results.

Advocate Anurag Srivastav, representing the victim’s family, contended that the bail application should have been dismissed based on the legal presumption aligned with unnatural deaths within seven years of marriage. He insisted that the established legal principle necessitates detaining accused individuals during the investigation of such cases.

Legal Pursuits for Justice

The family is committed to pursuing all available legal avenues to seek justice for Twisha. “We will knock on every door to ensure accountability,” stated a family member, referencing their determination to combat any perceived injustices within the legal framework.

According to Srivastav, “The marriage lasted a mere five and a half months, raising serious concerns regarding the circumstances surrounding Twisha’s death.” He added that the family’s appeal for a second post-mortem at AIIMS Delhi stems from doubts regarding the initial examination. “Their legal rights permit them to seek an unbiased investigation,” he confirmed.

In Moradabad, Uttar Pradesh, women’s activist Ritu Narang expressed her dismay over the incident, especially given the educated background of the accused family, which included a retired judge and a lawyer. She questioned why such tragic incidents continue to occur even among educated households, highlighting the need for more robust enforcement of existing legal protections for women.

Meanwhile, authorities announced a reward of Rs 10,000 for information leading to the arrest of the prime accused, Samarth Singh, who is reportedly absconding. Assistant Commissioner of Police Rajneesh Kashyap Kaul confirmed the implementation of measures to prevent the accused from fleeing the country, including correspondences with passport authorities. Currently, six investigation teams are actively working on the case.
