At the 81st United Nations General Assembly, US President Donald Trump articulated a forceful stance on the security of the Western Hemisphere, emphasising that the United States will deploy “unmatched military might” to confront regional threats. During his address on September 23, he drew a stark comparison between drug cartels and terrorist organisations, labelling them as significant threats to American safety.

Trump asserted that the US would no longer tolerate foreign threats gaining a foothold in the Western Hemisphere. He stated, “The United States will no longer permit threats to America to gain a foothold anywhere in the Western Hemisphere.” He indicated that the deployment of military resources might be necessary to protect vital national interests.

By officially designating drug cartels as Foreign Terrorist Organisations upon taking office, Trump justified military action to dismantle these networks throughout the Americas. He exclaimed, “The cartels are the ISIS of the Western Hemisphere,” underscoring their use of violence and terror tactics.

Historic Agreement with Greenland and Denmark

Transitioning to Arctic security, Trump announced a landmark arrangement with the Kingdom of Denmark and Greenland’s leadership, claiming it marks a historic commitment to American military dominance in the North Atlantic. He stressed that the agreement provides the US with permanent control over security arrangements in Greenland.

During his speech, he elaborated, “This agreement, made with the Kingdom of Denmark and Greenland itself, gives the US permanent control over security, and all other needs, on that territory.” He emphasised that this deal prevents any US adversary from establishing military operations in Greenland or investing without American consent.

Trump argued that securing Greenland serves to extend a defensive barrier for the United States and its allies in Europe. This expansion, he maintained, enhances NATO’s capabilities at a crucial geographical point.

Allegations Against the Cuban Government

Alongside his foreign policy declarations, Trump levelled serious accusations against the Cuban government, alleging it funds and coordinates far-left political movements within the United States. He asserted that the Cuban regime has maintained longstanding ties to radical leftist groups operating in the US.

He stated, “The Cuban regime has also spent decades coordinating with left-wing radicals and Communist networks here in the United States,” further alleging connections to groups like the Communist Party USA and Antifa. This accusation forms part of his broader narrative about foreign influence on domestic politics.

Reiterating his “America First” agenda, Trump firmly rejected the notion of global governance. He declared, “There is no global government, and while I am President, there will be NO GLOBAL TAXES.” This statement reflects his administration’s ongoing opposition to international regulatory frameworks.

In closing his address, Trump invoked the upcoming commemoration of American independence, asserting that freedom is a hard-won privilege that the United States will continue to uphold. He stated, “Freedom was not a gift that Americans won easily, and after 250 years, it is not one we will ever surrender.” This affirmation aims to resonate with a nationalist sentiment among his supporters.
