A severe accident on National Highway 31 near Dayalpur in Bhagalpur district resulted in the deaths of four individuals and left eleven others injured. This incident occurred on Tuesday when a private bus collided head-on with two auto-rickshaws. Nawgachhiya’s Superintendent of Police, Prerna Kumar, confirmed that authorities promptly arrived at the scene to assist those affected.

Speaking about the incident, Kumar stated, “Upon receiving notification of a collision involving a private bus and two auto-rickshaws, we quickly dispatched our teams. Given the gravity of the situation, additional police personnel from nearby stations were also mobilized. The initial assessment suggests that the bus was traveling at a high speed when it struck the smaller vehicles. Four individuals have lost their lives, and the injured have been transferred to hospitals in Bhagalpur for further medical care.” She noted that identification of the bus driver would take place following the filing of a First Information Report and that legal processes would proceed accordingly.

Identification of Victims and Ongoing Investigation

District Magistrate Nawal Kishor Choudhary provided additional details regarding the deceased. He mentioned, “Two of the four fatalities have been identified. One individual hails from Katihar and another from Khagaria. The head-on collision involved a large bus and two smaller vehicles.” Choudhary pointed out that efforts to locate any documentation within the vehicles have been unsuccessful thus far. “Once we fully identify the deceased, we will ensure their bodies are returned to their respective families,” he added.
