‘Toxic’ Nears ₹50 Crore in Advance Bookings Ahead of August 26 Release

The CSR Journal Magazine

‘Toxic: A Fairy Tale for Grown-Ups’, featuring Yash, has generated substantial advance bookings, nearing Rs 50 crore prior to its theatrical release on August 26. Despite receiving an A certification, the film is enjoying a remarkable pre-release momentum. Data from the trade website Sacnilk shows that the film’s advance bookings have already surpassed Rs 40 crore, with reports indicating a total of Rs 41 crore in Day 1 block bookings.

The accumulated gross from confirmed bookings stands at Rs 31.89 crore, attributed to 8.94 lakh tickets sold across 17,692 shows. With additional bookings still coming in, particularly from the Telugu markets, the figure is poised for further growth, potentially bringing Day 1 advance sales closer to Rs 50 crore.

Karnataka is leading in advance sales, contributing Rs 17.31 crore, including reserved seats. The region has observed 55 per cent occupancy across nearly 2,000 shows, with more than 1,100 shows reaching near full capacity.

Key Contributors to Advance Sales

The Hindi version of Toxic has also played a crucial role in boosting advance bookings, generating upwards of Rs 15.5 crore from 2D showings alone. Additional revenues from IMAX, 4DX, and Dolby Cinema presentations further enhance this total. Within the Hindi-speaking markets, Delhi-NCR leads with Rs 2.26 crore in blocked seat sales, followed by Mumbai with Rs 1.54 crore and Pune at Rs 86.61 lakh.

Maharashtra has contributed Rs 3.96 crore to the film’s advance total, while Gujarat has garnered Rs 2.85 crore. The capital city of Delhi has surpassed Rs 2.67 crore, and Tamil Nadu has recorded Rs 2 crore. Odisha is also displaying strong initial traction with Rs 1.56 crore in advance sales and a 43 per cent occupancy rate.

The Tamil Nadu market’s performance is particularly noteworthy given its relatively modest occupancy rates. With Rs 2 crore booked from 1,455 shows and only 12 per cent occupancy, it appears that the current figures may not reflect the market’s full potential, suggesting possible increases as the release date approaches.

Encouraging Trends in Premium Formats

There is encouraging interest in premium formats of the film as well. In Karnataka, the Kannada IMAX version has reported Rs 85.91 lakh in advance bookings, while the 4DX format has added Rs 27.73 lakh from Bengaluru. Hindi versions in IMAX and 4DX continue to contribute positively to the overall advance tally, showing strong occupancy in specific centres.

The significance of these initial numbers is underscored by the fact that advance bookings have not yet fully opened in several key markets. Presently, the overall real occupancy is around 32 per cent, indicating a considerable amount of available capacity remains untapped. Major markets are also experiencing low occupancy despite a large number of shows, which leaves room for substantial increases in advance sales leading up to the film’s release.

With Rs 31.89 crore confirmed from booked tickets and the overall tally reaching Rs 41.03 crore when including blocked seats, Toxic is poised for a substantial opening. Should remaining shows open robustly across Hindi markets, Tamil Nadu, and other regions, there is a credible possibility that the film could achieve advance sales reaching Rs 50 crore by Day 1.
