TMC’s Jungle-Raj Regime Disrespected President Murmu: BJP Leader CR Kesavan

The CSR Journal Magazine

BJP leader CR Kesavan has criticized the Trinamool Congress-led West Bengal government for what he refers to as blatant disrespect towards President Droupadi Murmu. Speaking on March 8, Kesavan accused the state administration of violating the principles of protocol and decorum that govern constitutional democracy and public life. He characterized the governance under TMC as “anarchic jungle-raj,” emphasizing the troubling implications of their actions.

Kesavan raised concerns regarding the silence of various opposition parties, including the Congress, DMK, and Communists, in response to the incident. He questioned why there has been no vocal condemnation from these groups, stating, “The TMC’s anarchic jungle-raj regime has deliberately disrespected and brazenly insulted the president of India.” The BJP leader urged the TMC government to issue an apology, arguing that they have undermined the dignity associated with high constitutional positions.

Demand for Accountability and Apology

Kesavan labeled the conduct of the TMC government as “shameful” and “indefensible.” He further insisted that they should formally apologize not only to President Murmu but also to tribal communities and the nation, reiterating the need for respect towards high constitutional offices. “They should apologize for trying to demean the dignity of these roles,” he stated emphatically.

Response from CPI-M Leader on Government Representation

In contrast, CPI-M leader Brinda Karat acknowledged the constitutional significance of the presidency. She pointed out that in situations where Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee was unable to personally welcome President Murmu, it was essential for a senior government official to represent her. Karat remarked that it is customary for state officials to be present when the President visits a state, reinforcing the importance of accountability from the government.

She stated, “When the President visits a place, it is a minimum requirement that representatives from that state’s government welcome her. If the Chief Minister could not attend, a senior functionary should have done so.” This comment underscores the expectations regarding protocol and respect for the office of the presidency.

Incident During President Murmu’s Visit to Darjeeling

The controversy originated on Saturday during President Droupadi Murmu’s visit to Darjeeling, where she expressed her dissatisfaction with the West Bengal government’s lack of reception upon her arrival. President Murmu noted the absence of the Chief Minister and other ministers at her event, highlighting, “If the President visits a place, the Chief Minister and the Ministers should also come. But she did not,” clearly indicating her disappointment regarding the situation.

The fallout from this incident has triggered significant political discourse in the state, drawing attention to the adherence to protocols that govern official visits, particularly those involving the head of state. The reactions from various political leaders continue to shape the conversation around government accountability and respect for constitutional roles.
