Three Major Actors Declined Role in Dhurandhar, Says Chhabra

The CSR Journal Magazine

Mukesh Chhabra, the casting director, has disclosed that three prominent actors turned down the opportunity to play the role opposite Akshaye Khanna in the forthcoming film Dhurandhar, directed by Aditya Dhar. During an interview, he mentioned that a notable South Indian actor and two Hindi film stars were initially approached but opted not to participate. This revelation brings to light the challenges faced during the casting process prior to Khanna being signed for the character of Rehman Dakait.

Chhabra, while speaking with Bollywood Hungama, indicated that the actors who declined the role provided various reasons. He chose not to disclose their names but noted that they expressed concerns regarding the film’s ensemble nature. According to Chhabra, they believed it primarily featured Ranveer Singh. He emphasised that Aditya Dhar quickly moved on from such negative notions, showcasing his resilience in assembly of the cast.

The casting director further elaborated on the uncertainty that surrounded Khanna’s involvement in Dhurandhar. He mentioned that initially three actors, including Arjun Rampal, Sanjay Dutt, and Khanna himself, were unsure about accepting their roles. Chhabra highlighted that R Madhavan was the only actor who promptly agreed to join the project, while others required more deliberation.

Post-Casting Developments

In reflection, Mukesh Chhabra stated that at the outset of the casting process, he and Aditya Dhar had not anticipated bringing together such a high-profile cast. The evolution of the casting reveals the complexities involved in assembling a star-studded ensemble, demonstrating how the perspectives of various actors can shape the project. Over time, it became evident that Khanna would be the suitable choice for the character.

The film, which has garnered significant attention, is officially titled Dhurandhar: The Revenge, and is set to release in 2026. This sequel has been produced with a diverse audience in mind, offering versions in Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam, and Kannada. By catering to various linguistic demographics, the film is poised to attract a broader viewer base.

Moreover, beyond its substantial star cast, Dhurandhar: The Revenge also features actors such as Sara Arjun, Danish Pandor, Rakesh Bedi, Manav Gohil, Udaybir Sandhu, Bimal Oberoi, and Raj Zutshi among others, playing pivotal roles. The film is co-produced by Jio Studios alongside B62 Studios, further highlighting its robust production backing.

Box Office Performance and Release Details

Upon its release on March 19, 2026, Dhurandhar: The Revenge faced competition from Pawan Kalyan’s Telugu action-drama Ustaad Bhagat Singh but managed to capture significant audience attention. During the 15-day box office run, the film reportedly earned an impressive total of Rs 1,492.17 crore worldwide. This strong box office performance illustrates the film’s appeal and the effective promotional strategies employed prior to its release.

The financial success reinforces the importance of strategic casting and the careful selection of talent, as highlighted by Chhabra’s comments. The dynamic nature of the project highlights the various factors that influence casting decisions and the potential outcomes of those decisions on a film’s success.
