Thousands of Devotees Join Shobha Yatra in Jammu to Celebrate Ram Navami

Jammu observed a Shobha Yatra on Thursday to commemorate the auspicious occasion of Ram Navami. The event is marked by a significant influx of pilgrims at the Katra base camp, as devotees arrive in large numbers to pay their respects at the Shri Mata Vaishno Devi shrine during the ongoing Chaitra Navratri festival. Officials noted that the steady flow of devotees is creating a vibrant atmosphere at the base camp.

The Katra base camp has experienced a considerable rise in the number of devotees, attributed to the ongoing Navratri festival, which attracts pilgrims from around the country. Authorities have implemented necessary arrangements to manage the heavy foot traffic effectively, ensuring a smooth experience for all participants with operational facilities and security measures in place.

Devotee Numbers and Observances

On Wednesday, the Shri Mata Vaishno Devi shrine saw a significant rush as devotees continued to visit during the Chaitra Navratri festival. Official sources confirmed that approximately 240,000 pilgrims had already visited the shrine in the early days of Navratri, with the inflow remaining steady and showcasing continuous movement along the track from Katra to the Bhawan.

Throughout the year, Hindus observe four Navratris, with Chaitra Navratri and Shardiya Navratri being the most widely celebrated as they align with seasonal transitions. Celebrations across India vary in form and tradition, reflecting local customs and practices. The nine-day festival culminates on Ram Navami, which marks the birth of Lord Ram and is observed with great reverence nationwide, particularly in Ayodhya, Uttar Pradesh.

During this time, many Hindus observe fasting that includes abstinence from alcohol and smoking, as well as adhering to a sattvic vegetarian diet. Participants immerse themselves in prayer and meditation, facilitating a process of spiritual detoxification through these nine days of devotion honors the nine incarnations of Goddess Shakti.
