The newly appointed Lieutenant Governor of Delhi, Taranjit Singh Sandhu, took his oath of office on March 11 in a ceremony held at the Delhi High Court. He succeeds VK Saxena, who has now taken on the role of Lieutenant Governor of Ladakh.

He emphasized the importance of cross-party collaboration, stating that Delhi serves as his ‘karmabhoomi’, or workplace. “Delhi has several stakeholders, and I have both studied and worked here. Together we will work for the city’s development,” he said. Sandhu acknowledged Prime Minister Modi’s vision for India and highlighted the capital’s pivotal role in national progress. He urged all parties to unite in tackling the increasing challenges faced by the city.

Chief Minister Rekha Gupta welcomed Sandhu, expressing confidence that his leadership would bolster Delhi’s development trajectory. She stated, “I welcome the honourable LG. With your presence, the growth rate of Delhi’s development will increase. Earlier in the day, Taranjit Singh Sandhu met with Union Home Minister Amit Shah to discuss important matters related to public service and governance. Following their discussion, Sandhu conveyed on X that it was a pleasure to meet Shah at his residence. He described the meeting as engaging, touching upon mutual interests and governance-related issues that are vital for public service efficiency in Delhi.
