Sonia Gandhi Visits Lalu Prasad in Delhi to Inquire About His Health

The CSR Journal Magazine

On Monday, former Congress president Sonia Gandhi visited Lalu Prasad Yadav at the residence of his daughter, Misa Bharti, in New Delhi. This meeting was primarily to inquire about Lalu Prasad’s health as he continues to receive treatment at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) in the capital.

Recently, he was brought to Delhi for specialised medical consultations after undergoing treatment and observation at the Indira Gandhi Institute of Medical Sciences (IGIMS) in Patna. Family members have reported that his condition is currently stable. Tejashwi Yadav, Lalu Prasad’s son and leader of the opposition in Bihar, shared details of the meeting on the social media platform X.

He noted that Sonia Gandhi expressed a personal desire to meet his father upon learning of his presence in Delhi for medical reasons. This visit marks a significant moment as it has been a while since the two leaders last met. Tejashwi Yadav emphasised the longstanding relationship between the Gandhi family and the Yadav family, highlighting their mutual support during challenging times. He mentioned that the meeting was not only a personal visit but also an opportunity to discuss Lalu Prasad’s health.

Reminiscing the UPA Era

During his post on X, Tejashwi Yadav recalled the political collaboration between Sonia Gandhi and Lalu Prasad Yadav during the United Progressive Alliance (UPA) government from 2004 to 2014. He highlighted various welfare initiatives that were implemented during that time, which benefited farmers, youth, soldiers, and the general public.

Notable legislations such as the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MGNREGA), the Right to Education (RTE) Act, and the Right to Information (RTI) Act were also mentioned as pivotal achievements of that era. Tejashwi pointed out that the UPA government, under the leadership of then Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, allocated over Rs 1.45 lakh crore for the development of Bihar.

This financial commitment was aimed at improving the socio-economic conditions in the state, which has been a focal point of discussion in the political landscape. In his reflections, Tejashwi Yadav underscored the importance of these initiatives in empowering citizens and ensuring transparency in governance. He reiterated the significance of their collaboration during the UPA tenure, noting how it had a lasting impact on various sectors.

Political Landscape and Opposition Unity

Tejashwi Yadav also addressed the recent rally of the INDIA bloc at Delhi’s Ramlila Maidan, asserting that opposition parties must remain united to confront the challenges currently facing the country. He stated that the gathering was not merely a concluding event but part of an ongoing campaign against Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar.

He affirmed that the opposition would persist in demanding accountability and action against him. In response to criticism from the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), which described the opposition rally as a failure, Tejashwi questioned the ruling party’s concerns. He alleged that the BJP’s nervousness indicated a deeper unease, suggesting that the rally had unsettled them.

He remarked that if the event had indeed been unsuccessful, there would be no need for the BJP to prove otherwise. Tejashwi Yadav concluded his statements by reinforcing the need for unity among opposition parties. He expressed determination to continue their efforts until the issues raised during the rally are addressed, underscoring the ongoing political dynamics in the country.
