A Delhi court has approved a four-day police custody for Uday Bhanu Chib, the President of the Indian Youth Congress (IYC), in connection with a protest that occurred at Bharat Mandapam during the India AI Impact Summit 2026. This decision was made on Tuesday, February 24, 2026, amid allegations of his involvement in unlawful activities during the demonstration.

Allegations of Conspiracy and Violence

Officials claim that Chib is the primary conspirator behind the incident that took place on February 20, 2026. It is alleged that he was instrumental in orchestrating an unlawful assembly, where anti-national slogans were raised, sparking fears of a potential riot. Reports indicate that Chib, along with several co-accused, allegedly obstructed police officers and engaged in violent confrontations while they were on duty.

Co-Accused Involved in the Incident

In addition to Chib, several individuals, including Shree Krishna Hari, Kundan Yadav, Narsimha Yadav, and Ajay Kumar Yadav, are also implicated. Police stated that Chib failed to cooperate during interrogation and did not provide information about other individuals who fled the scene of the protest or the origin of the protest materials, such as the T-shirts worn by participants.

Charges Filed Against Chib

Chib’s arrest has led to charges under various sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), including section 196, which pertains to promoting enmity among groups based on religion, race, or language. This charge is categorized as a non-bailable offense. Additional charges include criminal conspiracy, voluntary hurt to deter a public servant from carrying out their duty, and assault against law enforcement officers working to manage the protest.

Investigation Transferred to Crime Branch

Following the arrest, Chib was presented at Patiala House Court, where the need for police custody was justified for further questioning and a comprehensive investigation. As the inquiry progresses, the Delhi Police Crime Branch will take over the investigation to ensure thorough and impartial handling of the case.
