The Delhi Police have apprehended seven individuals and a juvenile in relation to the death of 54-year-old musician C Vikram Singh, originally from Manipur. The incident occurred in Kilokari Village, Ashram, Delhi, during a late-night confrontation between Singh and several delivery boys and dhaba workers. Reportedly, the altercation arose over complaints regarding noise outside Singh’s residence.

According to police statements, Vikram Singh had approached the group to raise concerns about the disruption caused by their actions. During this encounter, he was allegedly subjected to physical assault. Following the incident, his son, Yaiphaba, took him to Holy Family Hospital for medical attention, where Vikram ultimately succumbed to his injuries.

South East District Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Vineet Kumar confirmed that an argument over noise escalated into a physical confrontation that resulted in Singh’s injuries. The police initiated arrests soon after the incident was reported.

Community Response and Eyewitness Accounts

The death of C Vikram Singh has evoked strong reactions from the local community, particularly among residents from the North-East. Eyewitness Sandham Neroda Devi expressed her shock, stating that she initially assumed the situation was under control after receiving a phone call regarding the noise issue. However, she was later informed that Singh had passed away.

Neroda Devi, who has lived in the building for eight years, described Vikram as a “very good person” who typically avoided unnecessary confrontations. She highlighted the distress among local residents concerning the safety of individuals from the North-East, emphasising that alleged noise disturbances may have prompted Singh to intervene.

Another resident, Sangeeta Devi, shared her experience supporting Singh’s wife during this challenging time. She claimed that a group of individuals followed Singh inside his home, leading to the confrontation. According to her, when his family responded to the commotion, the assailants fled, possibly out of fear of being confronted by other residents.

Concerns Over Safety and Justice

Describing Vikram as a skilled musician, mentor, and music teacher, Narmada stated that the family is deeply affected by the trauma of the incident. She emphasised their demand for justice, articulating fears that if such violence continues, it poses a significant threat to community safety.

The urgency for justice is echoed by several community members, who are requesting that authorities take decisive action to ensure that the responsible parties are held accountable. The tragic circumstances of C Vikram Singh’s death continue to resonate beyond the immediate community, highlighting the issues of safety and mutual respect in diverse urban areas.
