RPF Detains 14 Bangladeshi Nationals at Jalpaiguri Station Over Fake Aadhaar Cards

The CSR Journal Magazine

The Railway Protection Force (RPF) apprehended 14 nationals from Bangladesh, which included four women and four minors, at the Jalpaiguri Road station in West Bengal. The group was reportedly traveling on the Northeast Express train bound for Delhi. Officials stated that the individuals were in possession of Aadhaar cards, prompting a thorough investigation to determine the authenticity of these documents.

Investigation Underway

RPF Inspector Biplab Dutta indicated that the arrests were made following routine inspections of the train, where some individuals were flagged as suspicious based on specific intelligence. Upon inspection of their Aadhaar cards, authorities found the documents to exhibit signs of forgery. Dutta emphasized that the verification process led to the identification of five men, five women, and four children, all confirmed to be residents of Bangladesh.

Additional Findings

Alongside the counterfeit Aadhaar cards, the RPF also seized Malaysian currency from the group. During initial questioning, the detained individuals claimed they were traveling to Kashmir for employment opportunities. This revelation raises further questions regarding their intent and the legitimacy of their documentation.

Previous Crackdowns on Illegal Immigration

Current Actions by Authorities

In light of the recent detentions, the Foreigners Regional Registration Office (FRRO) has commenced deportation proceedings against the detained Bangladeshi nationals. The Outer District Foreigner Cell has initiated a systematic approach to combat illegal immigration, launching extensive verification drives aimed at gathering intelligence and identifying individuals residing in the area without valid Indian identification.

Special Task Force Engagement

A dedicated team within the Foreigner Cell is tasked with monitoring immigration compliance, focusing particularly on individuals whose visas have expired. Reports indicated that some of these foreign nationals were allegedly attempting to secure medical visas for Bulgaria, but they lacked the necessary documents to remain in India legally. Authorities continue to emphasize the importance of maintaining law and order in such immigration matters.
