Kolkata’s RG Kar Medical College and Hospital which has constantly been in news over the rape and murder of a junior doctor in August last year, has hit the headlines once again. Anindita Soren (24), a final year medical student died mysteriously in West Bengal’s Malda on Saturday, September 13. Anindita was a student of Kolkata’s RG Kar Medical College and Hospital.

The deceased’s family alleges that her boyfriend killed her by poisoning her. Accused youth Ujjwal Soren is a student of Malda Medical College. Family of the deceased has filed a complaint against the accused at Malda’s English Bazaar police station. Police said that the real cause of death will be known only after the autopsy report comes.

Anindita secretly married lover in Puri temple, was pregnant, claims family

The deceased medical student was a resident of Balurghat in Dakshin Dinajpur district. According to family sources, she was in a love affair with Ujjwal, a student of Malda Medical College. Anindita Soren of Balurghat met Ujjwal Soren, a resident of Purulia, through social media and various events. Since both are medical students, it did not take much time to become friends. After that, they got involved in a romantic relationship.

Her family claims that Anindita went to a temple in Puri with her boyfriend and secretly got married. Anindita’s mother Alpana Tudu alleges that when her daughter became pregnant, she advised her to marry according to social norms. However, her boyfriend did not agree to it and forced her to have an abortion.

Family alleges murder by poisoning, rules out suicide

There had been problems between the couple for quite some time. A few days ago, Anindita went to Balurghat’s house. According to family sources, the young woman left the house on Monday, saying that she would return to Kolkata. Then, the Soren couple received a call from Ujjwal. The deceased’s mother claims that they were informed that Anindita was admitted to the Malda Medical College & Hospital. Upon learning this, Anindita’s family was shocked and could not understand how she landed in Malda.

Anindita was admitted to the hospital on Friday in a serious condition. She died on Saturday while undergoing treatment. The family of the deceased claims that they suddenly received a call informing them that her daughter was admitted to Malda Medical College. When they went there, they saw something like foam coming out of the girl’s mouth. They allege that the boyfriend killed the girl by feeding her something poisonous. The family claims that there were frequent quarrels between the two and rules out possibilities of the girl committing suicide.

What exactly happened in Malda?

According to the family sources of the deceased, the accused Ujjwal Soren had told them that he had stayed at a hotel in Malda with Anindita, where she fell ill. The deceased’s family suspects that Anindita had become pregnant. That is why she was pressuring her boyfriend to marry her, which created tensions between them. Following this, her boyfriend Ujjwal poisoned her and killed her, alleges Anindita’s family.

Police have opened an investigation into whether the death was a suicide or a murder. A post-mortem is being conducted to determine the cause of death. Meanwhile, Ujjwal Soren is reported to be absconding.
