Retired Army Colonel Assaulted, Forced to Transfer Money After Minor Collision in Gurugram

The CSR Journal Magazine

A minor collision between two vehicles in Gurugram escalated into a serious attack on Saturday, involving a retired Army colonel who was reportedly assaulted with beer bottles and forced to transfer Rs 30,000 via UPI. The victim, Anil Yadav, 50, was returning home alone from a private hospital after visiting his ill father. According to his statement, a car in the adjacent lane unexpectedly swerved into his path, causing his vehicle to graze it despite his efforts to brake.

Altercation Escalates

Yadav described the encounter, stating that after the collision, he exited his vehicle to assess the damage. He was confronted by six men who emerged from the other car, brandishing beer bottles and initiating a verbal altercation. Yadav, who was willing to compensate for the minor damage, claimed that the men had other intentions. They began assaulting him with the bottles and striking him physically, resulting in damage to his own car, including the windshield and lights.

Kidnapping Attempt and Hospitalization

During the altercation, Yadav alleged that the men attempted to forcibly take him into their vehicle but aborted their effort due to increasing traffic. Before fleeing, they compelled him to transfer Rs 30,000 through his UPI account. Following the incident, he was taken to a hospital where he received medical attention and was subsequently admitted for further care.

Concerns Over Police Response

In a post on X, Yadav expressed his frustration regarding the police’s response to the situation, claiming that the investigating officer had not visited him in the hospital to take his statement, nor was an FIR filed promptly. He criticized the officer’s belief that he had instigated the violence instead of being the victim. Yadav raised concerns about the broader implications of such violence, particularly regarding the safety of women, emphasizing how vulnerable individuals can be in similar circumstances.

Legal Action Taken

Following the incident, Gurugram police registered an FIR under the relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita at the Sector 50 police station on Monday. Five individuals have been arrested in connection to the case. The police identified the accused as Pankaj, 23, Vikas, 21, and Nikhil, 21, from Rewari district, along with Sahil, 22, and Ankit Kumar, 22, who hail from Mahendergarh district.

Ongoing Investigation

Authorities revealed that the accused had attended a wedding in Badshahpur prior to the incident. Some of the arrested individuals are employed at Nippon Company in Rewari, while one is a university student. The investigation is ongoing, and police are conducting further inquiries to gather more information related to the case and the events leading up to the assault.
