Remove her or will burn the Office: Global TV Bangladesh Chief Naznin Munni receives threat

Media houses in Bangladesh have been targeted of late, on December 21, a group of youngsters stormed the Global Tv Bangladesh and asked to remove the head of news, Naznin Munni, and also threatened, if not removed will face similar fate as Prothom Alo and The Daily Star. Goons who stormed the media house claimed that the new head was biased and supported the Awami League. They threatened, if Munni wasn’t removed then the channel office would be set ablaze.

In a Facebook Post, Munni wrote about the incident and shared with her followers that 7-8 people forcefully entered the office and warned her. She said such a threat was a part of the ongoing intimidation against journalists. “Around 7-8 people came to my office in the name of the city unit of the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement and threatened that if I do not quit my job, they will set fire to the office like Prothom Alo and The Daily Star,” Naznin said in her post.

Munni denied her connection with the political party

In an interview with Bangladeshi media, Naznin confirmed that she wasn’t at the office when the incident unfolded, the youth goons met the managing director of the news channel and complained that the story about Osman Hadi death wasn’t done well and it was biased.

As per media, the goons entered the office of Global TV and complained that the new head covered Hadi’s death, who was the spokesperson of Inqilab Mancha. While Munni denied her connection with the political party, the youngsters who entered the office demanded Munni’s removal.

Who was Hadi?

A 32-year-old popular leader of Bangladesh’s 2024 student-led uprising, Hadi, was a spokesperson for Inquilab Mancha, or “Platform for Revolution”. He was planning to contest from Dhaka-8 constituency in the Bijoynagar area in upcoming elections in February 2026. He was shot in the head on December 12, while he was returning home from Namaz and died while being treated in Singapore.
