Rajpur Road Closed to Vehicles Till March 25 for Sewer Work

The CSR Journal Magazine

The Delhi Traffic Police has released a traffic advisory for commuters in North Delhi, indicating that Rajpur Road is closed due to ongoing sewer line installation by the Delhi Jal Board. Located in the Civil Lines locality, this construction is anticipated to last several days and will impact vehicular movement across various roads in the vicinity.

Details of the Sewer Line Construction

The Delhi Jal Board is laying a 300 mm diameter sewer line on Rajpur Road, specifically between the 31 and 19 No. Rajpur Road sections. The construction activity is scheduled to occur from March 10 to March 25, 2026, along the carriageway connecting PS Civil Lines to MCD Chowk. The traffic advisory notes that commuters should expect significant congestion due to these restrictions.

Affected Routes

The construction is likely to disrupt traffic on several major roads in North Delhi, including Rajpur Road, Mall Road, Mahatma Gandhi Marg, Chauburja Marg, Bhiku Ram Jain Marg, Shamnath Marg, and Lok Niwas Marg. Traffic authorities have urged commuters to plan their journeys accordingly, using alternative routes where feasible.

Vehicle Restrictions on Rajpur Road

Rajpur Road will be completely closed to all vehicles from Rajpur Authority Cut to MCD Chowk. Vehicles approaching from PS Civil Lines Red Light and Rajpur Authority Cut will be redirected to better manage traffic flow during the construction period.

Traffic Diversion Measures

To aid in traffic management, the Delhi Traffic Police has instituted a diversion plan. Vehicles traveling from PS Civil Lines Red Light toward MCD Chowk or Tis Hazari will be entirely redirected. Similarly, vehicles from Rajpur Authority Cut to MCD Chowk and Tis Hazari will face complete diversions. However, vehicles heading from MCD Chowk toward PS Civil Lines will be permitted to traverse one lane of the roadway. Traffic headed toward Tis Hazari will be diverted from both the PS Civil Lines Red Light and Rajpur Authority Cut.

Suggested Alternate Routes

Commuters are encouraged to utilize alternate routes advised by traffic officials. One option includes diverting from PS Civil Lines Red Light to the Upper Authority Cut, turning left onto Under Hill Road, then taking a right onto Shamnath Marg, and another right onto Raj Niwas Road before reaching MCD Chowk. Commercial vehicles will not be permitted on Raj Niwas Road. Another route suggests taking a left from PS Civil Lines Red Light to Upper Authority Cut, then left onto Under Hill Road, a right onto Shamnath Marg, another right onto Boulevard Road, and a U-turn under Yudhister Setu before continuing onward.

Commuter Advisory and Guidelines

In light of the construction, traffic authorities recommend that motorists avoid the affected roads to minimize delays. They advise against roadside parking, as it may disrupt the regular flow of traffic. Commuters are also reminded to cooperate with traffic personnel at critical junctions and exercise patience throughout the construction duration.

Traffic Updates and Assistance

For real-time traffic updates and help, commuters can reach the Delhi Traffic Police via their official website and social media platforms. Updates are accessible on the official website, with additional information available on social media channels. Commuters can also contact the helpline numbers for immediate assistance.
